Let down at 38 wk appt. And added nerves!

I haven't progressed any from the 2cm I was last week. She didnt say anything about effacement. I guess I should've asked. Didnt think about it until now.

I asked her about stripping my membranes and she informed me that they don't do it.

Then she measured my belly and her response was, "oh yeah baby. We need you to come on out of there!"

I asked what that was supposed to mean. She said that she didnt want her getting much bigger. My OB starts pushing C/S after 9lbs.

Not what I expected to hear today after the contractions I've had. I just felt like something was happening! Guess I was wrong...

The only positive that there is about having a C/S... I'll get 2 more weeks paid leave from work. but I'd rather not have the surgery!

  • oh no! hopefully she isn't super big and you start making more progress soon, I thought the weight thing could usually be off by 1 or 2 pounds ? so how would they know for sure , at my appointment last week I was measuring 36 weeks two weeks ago a different doctor measured me at 38 weeks , I think it really has to do with how the baby is positioned.

Sorry your appt. was discouraging! I definitely know how you feel - my LO measured 2 weeks ahead at her last growth u/s and I haven't heard a thing from my doctors since (I was on target for a 9lb-er at 36w and don't get another u/s until 40w, which makes me nervous). We just have to trust that our bodies and babies are doing what they're supposed to be doing.

FWIW, if all she did was a fundal measurement (measuring your belly with a tape), that measurement is very inaccurate as far as determining the size of baby. Like pp said, those measurements are usually dependent on baby's position and how much fluid you have. Growth ultrasounds are more accurate but can still be off by up to a pound. If your doc is ready to push c/s, I'd definitely ask for a proper measuring u/s before scheduling surgery!

    Hang in there!

  • My doc said I was measuring big (with the tape) so I had an ultrasound and he was actually only in the 39th percentile.  A little small, but pretty much normal.  Yes, even the ultrasounds can be off quite a bit!  I've been at 1 cm for 3 weeks now, so I know how you feel!  Good luck and try not to worry.  Pretty soon you will have your LO!
