bottles at home after NICU

What kind of bottles did you use after coming home from the NICU?  I am breastfeeding and following up with a bottle of pumped milk, as instructed by the NICU, to ensure my little ones are full.  The bottles I am using now seem like they have a bigger nipple and my one DD that is home now doesn't seem to take them as well as she did the cheap disposable ones in the NICU. Thanks!

Re: bottles at home after NICU

  • We used the little gerber nurser ones.  I really had to modify the nipple we used when we brought DS home and ended up going back to the hospital and BEGGING for some nipples to help me transition him over. (they gave them to me!)

    Good luck!

  • I used Tommee Tippee because I have big boobs and they have a wide base. The LC thought it would be good to mimic the breast.

  • We used the Dr. Browns with a preemie nipple.
  • We did the level 1 Avents and the bigger nipple Vent-aires and had no problems.

  • We used Gerber nipples and they attached to the nurssettes from the nicu. They are very similar to the disposable nipples from the hospital. They come in like a 3 or 9 pack from target, and are SUPER cheap!

Once we got a little bigger, and better at feeding, She went on to MAM bottles.

  • we used the Dr. Browns with the preemie nipples like others have said.  We had a person from speech therapy work with us in the nicu because of DS's PDA surgery and his reflux.  This is what they found worked the best for us as he needed lots of pacing so the slow nipple was great.  They told us that these had the slowest nipples that they knew of.

  • We had a bunch of Dr. Browns, but my DS was picky, picky. picky and wouldn't take them since there were slightly different from the NICU nipples he got accustome to. After a lot of searching we finally went to the Evenflo nipples, which were the most like the hospital nipples.
  • We use Dr. Browns.  They are most like the nipples she got in the NICU and they are the only bottle she'll take.

I don't know what nipples they used in the NICU but you can buy some of them online (see here)

  • Our NICU gave us a bag full of those cheap nipples to use for awhile. Then we switched to Dr. Browns and he's doing really good with them. Those nipples are soft like the cheap ones.
