I have a high risk pregnancy (DVT, diabetes) and was wondering if it is safe for me to drive to an event alone tonight. It's about 1.5 hours away. My husband is out of town and I do want to go, but am worried if it's too risky. Thoughts?
You know that is what I love about this site. Everyone is so helpful and friendly (sarcastic!). I am really sick of reaching out for comments or support and getting snide comments in return. Perhaps I have tried to ask my doctor. Maybe I just wanted to hear from other moms to be.
Oh, calm down girl. I wasn't being sarcastic at all. I would hate to tell you to go for it and then have you post that something awful happened later on. Just check with your Dr to be on the safe side Ok?

You know, stress is bad for the baby. You really should relax
Personally, I wouldn't be worried about a 1.5 hour drive, but I'm used to riding 11 hours one way to MI when we go home to visit. I agree with pp, though, about checking with your doctor. GL!

I am a type 1 diabetic, so if I were going out of town alone, I would make sure that I have a way to treat high or low blood sugars while I'm out. Also, take a cell phone and keep someone updated about how you are doing/feeling. I also think it would be a good idea to find out how your doctor feels about you going. Good luck!
I think 1.5 hours should be fine. You can always bring snacks and take breaks if you're concerned about sitting in the same spot too long. You could stop every 30 minutes or so to get out and stretch if you need to.

Regardless of the advice you get from other moms, you should follow your doctor's advice (assuming you actually have asked this question). Every pregnancy is different, and we'd be making suggestions without knowing the details of your pregnancy. I wouldn't trust the safety of my baby with a stranger on the Internet whose advice contradicts my doctor's.
Married to my best friend 6/5/10
BFP #1 9/7/10, EDD 5/14/11, Violet born 5/27/11.
BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.
BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
I'm not sure about the DVT but with diabetes I drive about an hour out of town everyday I go to work since I commute to a different town. I think taking frequent breaks would be helpful, plus maybe know where the nearest medical center is where you are going...

Yeah...definitely wasn't being sarcastic on that. At all. If you have question about something like that--you need to call your dr--not a message board. Get your big girl panties.
