Full of ?'s today! Membrane stripping?

I'm totally new to this so forgive me.

I have a 38 week appointment today and I'm thinking of asking my MW to strip my membranes.

Last week I was almost 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Cervix was "very soft" and anterior.

I am set to induce next Friday. I would of course rather her come without the induction.

Would this be something that would help that? Would they even consider doing this at 38 1/2 weeks when I'm already showing progress?

Yep! I had my 39 week visit yesterday and was 2cm and 75% effaced. My doc stripped my membranes,and it was very painful. Sorry to be a downer on the pain thing, but I would rather you know.

I think that's a reasonable request. They won't do it unless you're somewhat dilated. I had my membranes stripped on a Monday and had the baby the following Sunday. It didn't hurt at the time she did it but the cramps afterwards were almost immediate and they did hurt. I think those cramps were very similar to the ones I ended up having when I was in labor - in other words, they were like contractions for me. Good luck!

I had it done this morning and am now at 4. Everyone told me it hurt like hell, but actually it felt like a normal internal.

I had mine stripped yesterday and for me it did hurt enough for me to say Ouch out loud, but I did progress from 1cm to 2cm right after it was done and I have been losing my mp all day today and mini contractions, not really timable though GL oh and my doctor asked me if I wanted her to do it , so maybe your midwife will ask you, if not you should ask
