Cincinnati Babies

s/o Birth control (recommend yours)

I'm still on the mini-pill (Jolivette), but since DS is down to nursing twice a day I'd imagine I'm in the market for something new pretty soon.

I am working on finding a new dr (I'm thinking Dr. Bowen is my best option, but I haven't wrapped my head around having a male doctor yet), and as soon as I get one I need an appointment and will discuss my options - but prefer to have some sort of plan when I go in there.

I'm looking short term as we'll have another baby at some point in the near future.

What do you use and recommend?

  • I chose and IUD even though we may TTC in the next year, but only because it was covered in full by my insurance.  Before DD I was on Nuvaring and loved it, but after 4 years on it, it started screwing with my migraines so I now can't take any kind of hormonal BC.  I LOVED it when I was on it though, never moody, light AF, nothing to remember daily.

  • I used Nuvaring for years and loved it, it was so easy.  I even would leave it in the extra week and skip periods!!! Doc told me it wouldnt hurt anything.
  • We arent on BC anymore because we are TTC but I have been on probably 15 different types over the years, and I loved the NuvaRing (which was the last I used). It was too easy and I had no S/Es.

  • Actually, I forgot that I was on nuvaring before I got pregnant, and it have me awful awful mood swings, so that's probably out :)

  • I seem to get a crappy side effect for every BC I've tried, and it sounds like everyone really likes Nuvaring. But, I would have a migraine pretty consistently hit me sometime Friday of the week I was off until I put the new one in on Sunday. I'm still searching for a BC I like.

  • We do NFP (natural family planning) and love it. It's safe, easy, effective and there are no side effects. Best of all, I like knowing what's going on with my body and not relying on hormones or devices to prevent pregnancy. Check out www.ccli.org for more info!

  • Nuvaring made my psycho!  Hated it.  I liked the patch but I don't think that is used much anymore because of the amount of hormones that are released.

  • I really like my mirena.  There are ladies on this board who have had issues with it... but for me it works.

I found out that this strange itchiness I had experienced for years was caused by a filler in my BC Pill.  I had taken atarax (an antihistimine) that helped curb it... stopped taking it when I was prego and didn't want to use it while nursing.  But all the while I didn't have the weird itchiness.  I went back on the pill and the itchiness was back within an hour of me taking the pill.  Needless to say, I stopped taking the pill and had a mirena inserted a few weeks later.  I haven't had issues and I haven't had a period in a long time (4 since May 2007????.. I don't even know)

HaHa This made me LOL. I'm on Seasonique which is the one where you get four periods a year. So far I love it and love not having a period every month.

  • We do NFP now (or condoms) and I highly recommend it. Heck I've been charting trying TO get pregnant and its still not working so apparently its a great b/c haha WinkPlus if you know you are going to be ttc anytime in the next year you have the bonus of not having to wait for your periods to regulate after coming off hormonal b/c.

Before we were married I was on b/c for having really awful periods and had the best luck w/ the Ortho Evra patch. The b/c pills make me nauseous (apparently my body is pretty sensitive to hormonal changes and the pills were just too much). I was on the NuvaRing and it made me mean and killed any sex drive I had. The patches were super easy, you only have to remember to change it once a week and I had no side effects.

  • Before I got pg I was on Seasonique and loved it. You have a period every third month. I never had spotting or PMS symptoms, and my period was very light.
  • I love my IUD (Mirena).  Even though it's good for 5 years, I used mine short term because it was cheaper than the pill and now I have another in.  I haven't ever had a good experience with the pill.  I also hated the Nuvaring - made me crazy hormonal and fell out during..... which hurt like hell.

I have little to no periods, no PMS and never have to remember to take anything.

  • We do NFP and I'm kind of shocked to see that some of you guys do as well.  Anytime I bring it up in real life (which is pretty much never) people act like we live on another planet to do something that "crazy."

It's been 100% effective for us and we only got pregnant when we were trying to.  We use the Creighton Model.
