VBAC

VBAC doctor in Howard County Maryland?

I had no idea there was a VBAC board, so I am hoping I can get a lot of information!

Long story short, I ended up having an emergency c section with DD which I would have been fine with, but the doctor had told me 10 minutes prior to her going into distress that I would need a c section due to failure to progress. I had only been in the hospital for maybe 8 hours and was 5 cm dilated at the time he told me I wasn't progressing.

So I am just wondering if anyone here is from the Maryland area.

TIA!

Re: VBAC doctor in Howard County Maryland?

  • I'm from MD but I love in Harford County. We have a local bump board and I know someone on there, but far from me just attempted a VBAC. Let me see if I can find the info.

ETA: Here is the link to the post where I asked her who her provider was and here is the link to the follow up after her baby was born.

I also have a frien who is researching VBAC and she has also said how great the ICAN leader for our area is and how much she has gotten out of the meetings. I can't go because they are Sunday evenings and I work Sundays, but here is the info for the meetings on the ICAN of Bmore website.

Also, feel free to come join us on the local Bump board, we're a friendly bunch I promise!

  • I have two recommendations for you but they are both in Baltimore City. Kathy Sloane is a CNM at Mercy. She delivers at the hospital, so they have all of the resources that you would want available, if there were an emergency. If you want to deliver at a hospital with an OB I heard great things about Dr. Bienstock. at Hopkins. I have a couple for friends who are residents there and all use her. Everyone in her practice group will attend a VBAC.

The DC Urban Mom board is a good resource. In MD, Midwifery Care Associates or MAMAs. In DC, WISDOM midwifery at GWU has the highest hospital VBAC rate. That is who I am seeing.
  • I had a VBAC and saw the midwives at Drs. Esposito, Mayer and Hogan.  They have 6 or 7 doctors and about 9 midwives.  I never saw a doctor, only the midwives, and they were great!
