does anyone know of a hospital/ birthing center in or near Nashville that offers water birthing?
originally I had my heart set on Infinity birthing center in Cookeville but thats just too far to drive while in labor
so i saw on some message board that vanderbilt midwives practice is the only one in my area that does water births but then another message board said that they did not offer water births, does anyone know for a fact if they do or dont?
also if they dont does anyone know where I can go (locally) to have my water birth?
I just found out that I'm pregnant and i want to make my first appointment at the right place
Re: waterbirth in or near nashville
No hospital in the area offers water births that I've heard of. OB confirmed that one when I asked him about waterbirths.
The other message board poster is right about Vandy MW. They do have a tub that women can labor in. But they won't allow you to give birth in it. And the tub, from what I understood, is a first-come first-serve basis.
That being said, the East End Women's Health and Birthing Center is/was in East Nashville, IDK if they are still in business or not (I had a low-intervention hospital birth, so I really don't know firsthand, just what I googled out of curiosity).
I think your best bet, however, is to hire a midwife that oversee homebirths and order all the waterbirth stuff for your homebirth. I know several women in my Bradley class that went with that option and there are many good MW's to choose from without having to get locked into the practitioners for one facility.
Some insurance plans will cover at-home births. You will need to file it as an out-of-network procedure - but first contact your insurance company. I know a few friends had to fight to get any money from the insurance company.
That being said, using a midwifery service costs less than a hospital. I'm just beginning my search and interviewing local midwives. Exciting! I'm also making sure to do my research, as I know some people will try to talk me out of it or not understand my and my husbands decision. If you have any books that are good references, please post!! My favorite documentary: Business of Being Born (less than $10 on amazon - recommended movie for every mother wanting an active birth!)
