concealed weapon question

Last night at Red Robin the man sitting at the next table had a weapon, very visable in a hipholster.  I always thought concealed weapons were to be concealed, not flashed around in public?

Re: concealed weapon question

  • Did it seem like he was showing it off on purpose?  My husband carries a concealed weapon and sometimes his shirt will come up over it or something and he doesn't even know.  I don't know what the "rule" is about it.

He may have not known it was there, or showing. Or he may have just gotten off work and forgot that it was there. I know some officers who feel naked without their gun (or knifes).

  • I will have to ask DH since he has a CWP, but I believe that as long as its under the holders control (so a hip holster) its okay, concealed doesnot have to mean invisible

I will get back to you when he gets home

  • Washington is an open carry state.  If you carry your pistol openly, no concealment, you don't need a permit.  There is a very active movement that openly carries as much as possible to "test" the law.

You only need your cpl if you're wearing it concealed.

So they wave guns around while they are at restaurants and stuff?  That seems so STUPID.

  • Interesting.

It was in no way hidden, his shirt was tucked into jeans and the holster was over both.  To me he was flashing it around, but I was the only one at the table that noticed, although my seat was facing their table. He moved it around as if it was uncomfortable to sit with, stood numerous times with his hand on it for no apparent reason and went to the bathroom twice.

I asked dh since he carries one for work if he knew, he said the guy was a dork.  lol

  • Maybe he isn't accustomed to wearing a holster/carry a weapon, so he was uncomfortable but didn't intend to draw attention to it.

I asked DH about it when I got home and he was asking how he carried it, but I couldn't tell him since I didn't see.

LOL!  Now it really is too bad I didn't get a chance to see him. Stick out tongue

  • I bet it was an open carry guy.  They are careful to walk the line of not "brandishing" [i.e., waving it around or threatening someone] but do try to be as public as possible.  It's a bit of a loophole really, they only wrote laws about what to do if it's hidden.

It would weird me out to see someone near us at a restaurant; you don't know what training if any he has, why he carries - I'm a bigger fan of concealment :)  I don't want to know if the weirdo next to me has a gun sometimes..
