Scared...and wants to cry!

So I went to the doctor for a checkup and I am still only 2cm dilated and no effacing. One more checkuop next week before we start talking induction. I talked to doctor about the procedure but is there anyone out there who has gone through it. I am more than a little terrified. The father wont be there only family.

  • There is nothing to be scared of. Not everyone progresses the same way, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything about how your induction would go. Mae sure when you discuss it with your doctor you ask about a cervix ripener. Many drs. skip right over this and go to pitocin, leading to stressful inductions.

My induction (using misoprostol) was easy and fairly fast and pitocin free. You can read my birth story here:

but ive heard with some people induction goes by fast and others it takes some time to get the process going.

  • Thanks everyone for the encouragement and advice. This is my second and my daughter was so easy to carry and have, and this one has been hardheaded since conception..lol. I will definetly find out about the cervix ripener, I really dont want to be pumped full of hormones. I am anxious to hold my llil one, but I;m being patient

  • My only advice, have them check you before they start the pit to make sure you are far enough to be ready to start it.  They might need to do cervadil or something similar.  I was induced and really had a GREAT experience.  I know not everyone does, but the same can be said of vag/c-section, etc.  Everyone has their own birth experience.  FWIW I was PETRIFIED when they told me I had to be induced, but now I am hoping they decide to induce this time too (for a few medical reasons, not just because).
