2 chairs in the nursery?

My DH wants to get another chair so that when we're both up with the babies, we can each sit somewhere comfortable. Do you have 2 chairs in your nursery, and how long were they useful?

I'm mostly trying to decide whether to get a chair that would move to another room later, or something that would stay in the babies' room for quite awhile. Our kids' rooms are decorated in very different colors and styles than the rest of our house.

Re: 2 chairs in the nursery?

  • I wish we had the space for two. If we did, we would still be using them to snuggle with and read to the girls before bed.  They DEFINITELY would have helped a ton until they started STTN and not needing bottles in the middle of the night (5 months).

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • We have a single story home.  Not sure why, but we don't really use the glider too much (glad we got a used one - which looks brand new btw).  The first month, I we alternated on feedings, and we did use it then.  However, then I started tandem feeding, and I brought them to bed and propped them on a pillow - but DH wasn't a fan bc they would wake him... so then I moved to the family room.  I would take advantage and catch up on dvr at that time, so being the the family room was perfect, and when they wake up now (which is seldom) I still go to family room.

So, IMO, I'd say one chair is enough, but every family is different.  I do use it during the day to rock them and read to them, but no need for another.

  • I think just now we are hitting the point where I'd like to have 2 chairs. However, I like the space we have so I wouldn't want a second chair... One of us just sits on the floor :)
  • I think I'm the odd person who doesn't have a rocker or glider and haven't missed it.  I think I would start with one.  You could always get another if you felt like you needed it.

  • We put a loveseat sofabed in the nursery. It was very handy.

  • We barely used our glider with DS.  He was much to high maintenance to allow mommy and daddy to SIT :)  LOL.

We bought the Dutailier Matrix with the idea that we could eventually put it in our living room or something.

  • We are putting a comfy recliner in the nursery for me and a wooden rocker (that we are borrowing from my parents) for DH or whoever else might be helping us out.
  • We have 2 chairs in our master bdrm right now.  And they are previous PB armchairs that match a couch in our formal room.  We have the changing table and the 2 chairs in here.  Our master is across/down the hall from them.

The girls will be 8 months next week.... we've had this "2 chair" set up for almost 7 months now.  Once the PNP left (next to my bed) we set up the 2 chairs w/a small accent table in between than has a dim 4 watt night light (pink bulb was darker than the clear ones)...and bibs/burp rags on that little table.  We can both feed them at the same time.... or now, as they are transitioning to STTN.... if 1 is STTN and one is waking all the time, we can feed them/change them in here and not wake our other DD.

My glider is actually in our family room/TV room.  :)  I use it just to rock for fun, or if one is fussy.  I almost bought a 2nd glider, but soooo glad we did the armchair set up.

We're similar to this. We splurged on a super nice Dutalier recliner (it was our only splurge in the nurseries), and we put it in DD's room. We also have an old family rocking chair, which is also in her room. We've used both chairs right from the start, and I can't imagine not having them. DH and I do bedtime together sitting in those chairs. It's our favorite time of the day b/c the four of us are in the room together in the rocking chairs, snuggling, reading books, etc. I highly recommend two chairs (with at least one being a comfy glider and the other being any type of chair/rocking chair).

  • We have two that get used constantly.  When we have a third person helping I wish we had a third glider.  I would also like another glider downstairs.  My boys don't like for you to sit still with them when they are tired so we are either sitting still holding a fussy baby, walking around which gets really tiring or rocking (ah rest).

I only used mine while I had to get up to BF the boys so one was more than enough-if you plan to bottle feed and DH plans on getting up with you I could see more than one being useful at the beginning.

Other than that I haven't used it since....

  • We have a glider in the nursery, but also got a folding papasan chair from Target in a fun blue color that matches the decor. It folds nicely behind one of the French doors, so when the doors are open you can't even see it. When we need a second chair, it's easy to pop open and set up!

  • I have two chairs in their room, still. I  didnt think we would need two chairs but my mom gave me a chair that used to be in my nieces room.  And I am so glad she did.  This way both DH and I could feed the girls in the middle of the night together.  One is a really nice dutalier and the other (from my mom) is just a basic rocking chair.  Which ironically I ended up using more.

My girls are 20 mths now and we are getting rid of the rocking chair soon.  If you have the space, I definitely recommend having two chairs.

  • We have 2 rockers (one was mine as a baby) but only one in the nursery because the one we bought is the only one that matches.  We picked it up used on CL and it had an ottoman and I thought "man, this takes up so much space" and I wanted to put it up. Turns out we've used the hell out of the ottoman - that's where DH sits when we're both feeding babies.

We're not big on rocking to sleep - it's kind of a last resort because we don't want rock-a-holics so, other than feeding them both in the nursery, we really haven't needed 2 chairs.  In the times when we have needed both, one of us has just gone into the guest room to use the other chair.

  • We started with 1 and bought a second one about a month after the babies were born.

We still use it every night!

  • I did for the first 8 weeks or so.

My glider is the big armchair from PBK, and has an ottoman.  It takes up a good amount of space, but is very easy for me to sit in with both girls (even now) and be comfortable.  I'm a SAHM, and DH has a standing appointment one night a week, so there were (and are) times where I need to rock both of them together.

When the girls were really little and we needed both people on deck, we had a wooden rocking chair that was very slim that we had in there also.  After life calmed down a bit, we moved the wooden rocker into our room, which is next door to theirs.  This worked well because we usually didn't need to rock both of them at the same time after 8 weeks, and if we did, it was beneficial to have it happen in another room.  I would stay in the nursery with one crying baby, and DH would take the other to our room to soothe.
