Dr. appt. tommorow talk about laproscopy surgery &D&C

I have been having 22 days of bleeding again this cycle. I have had crazy cycles since the miscarriage and bad cramps. I talk to a different OB Dr same practice about DC to clean out uterus he thinks this might be some of my problems. I am also having laproscopy to look at tubes, uterus, endometriuses, they are going to run dye through my uterus.

How long will this surgery probably take? Does the D&C hurt and laproscopy procedure hurt? Will they be able to probably tell me results after surgery? I talk to OB Dr. tommorow and make an appointment for this procedure. I am nervous this is my second surgery in less than 4 months.

  • I don't know about the laproscopy, but the D&C doesn't hurt.  They put you under, so you don't feel anything and the procedure is only about 20 minutes.  Then you'll have some cramping afterward, but the dr will give you a prescription in case it gets bad.  Good luck!

  • I am just so nervous about having another surgery. I hate Dr. appointments.

  • I had a D&C not a laprocopy. DH was surprised at how fast it went. My nurses were great, my main nurse had to ask the reason I was there to verify I knew what was going on and she gave me a huge hug after I confirmed th D&C. It still feels a little surreal, I remember walking into the surgery room and laying down. The recovery was surprisingly easy. I rested at home for a couple of days.
  • I haven't posted here in a long time, but wanted to chime in about laproscopy.  I had this done in January to have a cyst removed.  The actual surgery does not hurt (you're completely under), however I had discomfort for 5 days after due to the gas they inflate your stomach with.   I was in a lot of pain to be honest, but take the meds they give you, I refused (not a huge fan of narcotics).  Im sure if I would have taken the meds I would have felt better a lot sooner. Best of luck.

  • I had laproscopy done in January, along with the tubal patency (where they run the dye through to check your tubes).  I had minimal pain from the gas (some stiffness in my shoulders for a day or two), but the recovery was easier than I expected, and I got a lot of useful information about what's going on in there, so I felt it was a good decision.  Hang in there!!

  • I did have a laproscopy but not for a d&c.  It is not bad overall, but like the pp said that gas they fill you up with makes you ache.  So you will want to make sure you get up and walk around from time to time. That helps a lot with that.

The pain was after was an issue for me and I had to take the meds they gave me.  The hardest thing for me was that it is impossible to sleep on your side or your stomach for at least two weeks.  The doctor might not give you info afterwards because you will probably be a little out of it.

I am hoping they figure out what is going on with my tubes and uterus and why I am bleeding for so long each cycle.  It will be nice to get the useful info of what is going on with my body.

  • I didn't have the laproscopy, but I did have a D&C. Like PP's said the actual procedure is very short and painless since you're out. I cramped pretty bad afterward but the medicine they gave me worked just fine. Get up a move also. Obviously not right away, but I ended up laying in recovery for almost 5 hours after my surgery and I couldn't walk upright from being stiff and the cramps. My best advice is just do what your body needs.

Same... it didn't hurt and my first 2 days after not bad.. but the next 2 days got some bad. painful cramps.. took ibprof. and that helped.  Then some aches and bleeding after but not as bad.      wish you GL and hopefully some answers.  ((hugs))

  • I don't know about those particular procedures, but I have had both a D&C and a uterine laproscopy before.  Not at the same time though.  That being said, the D&C wasn't painful at all.  The laproscopy (mine was to correct a severely tilted uterus) was not too bad either.  I had some cramps, but the part that really sucked was the gas pain.  They pump your abdomen full of air so they can see.  When the gas is absorbed you get gassy, but the pain meds slow your GI tract down so it makes it hard to get rid of it.  I highly recommend getting yourself some Gas-Ex for during recovery.
