Re: Need OB rec in North Raleigh/Wake Forest

  • I'd suggest Kamm, McKenzie, et al.  They deliver at Wake Med Raleigh campus and have an office near the Wake Med North campus (near Falls of the Neuse and Durant).  I really liked them a lot.

For my first pregnancy I went to Blue Ridge OB/GYN--they deliver at Rex and also have an office near Durant and Falls.  I switched b/c DS1 was a preemie and Wake Med's NICU is better than Rex's.  Rex is a "nicer" hospital but I needed to be somewhere with top notch care for a potential preemie which is why I went with Kamm et al for this pregnancy.

I also found the wait times with Blue Ridge to be insanely long (over an hour wait for a 10 min appt) and I did not have that problem with Kamm et al.  With Blue Ridge I also felt like no one ever read my chart and I had to tell them everything every single time (and not just the standard questions that you do need to tell them every time).  Again, not the case with Kamm.

That being said, there are many women on this board who go to Blue Ridge and really like it.

P.S.--I'm using the past tense for all of this because we've moved to Maryland and I just can't say goodbye to this board yet and the stupid bump won't let me change my location.  :)

  • Thanks. I actually just moved here from DC area so enjoy!
  • I go to Blue Ridge and have been very happy with them.  I've bene going for over 3 years now.  I actually never had a long wait time (maybe 10 min).  I'm now mostly seeing Dr. Gaines.  It took me a little while to warm up to him but I really like him now.  I also really like Dr. Anya and Dr. Corvin (women)

  • I also go to Blue Ridge OBGYN off of Durant Rd. in North Raleigh and have been going for 5 years, I am on my second pregnancy. I have never had long waits at all, I think the longest total I have ever been in the office is 45min from start to finish. I try to get early morning apts since it does seem like they back up later in the afternoon. I was very happy with them for my care with #1 and so far this pregnancy as well. I like Dr.Anya and Dr. Gunter., as well as Nurse Hilbert.  Dr. Gaines delivered #1 and I like him, but I found that while I was pregnant he didn't have the best (warmest) beside manner.

  • Glad to hear others did not have my experience of long waits at almost all appts with Blue Ridge.  Maybe they've gotten better with scheduling??  And FYI, Dr. Gaines does indeed lack bedside manner to say the least but I'd also say he's the best physician on staff there. He's not warm and fuzzy at all but I had great confidence in his skills.  My favorite doc (Polly Watson) left the practice several years ago and is now just doing GYN.  I saw her between pregnancies and would have gone back to her after this one if we were still local.
