? about water breaking

How do I know when it has happened?  I have been to L&D twice now - the first time, I thought my water had broke and second for regular contractions.  I came home today and "napped" through more contractions.  When I got up to go pee, my pants are damp.  I can't tell if it is sweat or fluid.  Thoughts?

Re: ? about water breaking

  • This is what I have heard: 1.) Smell it and if it smells like urine then you know it's not your water.  The amniotic fluid smells sweet. 2.) It will probably continue to leak if it is your water.  Put on a pad and if you soak it then it probably is your water.  3.) It is obvious because a lot of water comes out or it won't stop. HTH

  • I would change into dry pants/undies and put a pad on, and see if anything comes out.

  • My water broke for my DS and I felt a pop when I was sleeping.  Also at least for me there wasn't any question because it kept coming.  I put on one of those huge pads and new underwear and pants and I was completely drenched by the time we got to the hospital 15 mins away.
