Chicco Keyfit 30 versus Graco Snugride 35 travel systems

I am debating between the two travel systems. We will definitely be getting the travel system so any advice about the car seats or strollers for these two would be appreciated. Also does anyone know if either or both will fit into a Chevy Cobalt and Toyota Camry?

Thanks in advance for the advice!!

Re: Chicco Keyfit 30 versus Graco Snugride 35 travel systems

  • I originally bought a Snugride for our stroller (it's a BOB) but I went into premature labor at 24 weeks.  When we were close to discharge from the NICU they told us we would need a car seat that would fit a 4 lb baby so we bought the Keyfit 30 thinking we would use the extra car seat in my dh car.

The Keyfit is SO much better than the Snugride.  Much easier to use and also more sturdier.  A cop told me that the Snugride car seats also don't hold up as well in a crash so we just use the Snugride in the stroller.  I hope this helps.

  • We LOVED our Keyfit.  It is so easy to use.  My husband would put it in the back of his Mustang to take DD to daycare in the morning so I know it will fit in your larger cars :)

I looked into both car sets and decided on the Chicco Keyfit 30, but I debated back and forth for a while. Baby Bargains recommends both of these seats, but gives a slight edge to the Graco due to it's more universal compatibility with different strollers. However, Consumer Reports rates the Chicco as #1 for safety. The salespeople at BBB told me that Graco is still one of the most popular and for a while was the #1 pick of Consumer Reports.

i didn't look into the travel system since we're getting a different stroller. and the stroller we're getting (uppababy vista) has adaptors to use either of these carseats.

So since universal compatability wasn't important to me, and I liked the look, feel and ease of use of the Chicco, I went with that one.

Have you gone to the store and looked at both? It helped me to see them in person and play with the seats release and grip and see which felt more comfortable.

    Good luck!

  • It was down to these two and I went with the Chicco.  Just a tad better

  • We were down to these two as well. Went to BBB and tested them both out....the sales lady said hands down the Chicco. I liked the stroller a LOT better with the Chicco. I think it steered easier. Go and check them out. Im sure you couldn't go wrong with either.

  • Definitely go with the Chicco! Once we tested both in the store the Chicco was the clear winner. It just felt so much sturdier.
  • the chicco is way better atleast for the car seat i dont know about the stroller. the carseat has way better crash test ratings.

  • I will go against the grain.

I think there is a significant quality diffrence between the Graco Snugride 22/30 vs. 35 model.  We did not care for the 22/30 models at all.  However, in my opinion, the 35 model is much improved over the other 2 models and more in line with the quality and features of the Chicco brand.

We were going to go with the Chicco brand until we got a awesome deal on the Snugride 35 at target with matching stroller. They were being clearance out.

So, yes, price was the tie breaker for us (as we need 2 of everything), but in terms of quality, I do think the 2 models (Graco 35 and Chicco) are comparable.

But I personally don't care for the Graco 22/30 models.

  • Thanks all for the advice! We were leaning towards the Chicco but I think we need to go play with both a little more and see if the store will let us try them out in the cars.
