Hi ladies! My mom is coming into town this weekend and I wanted to take her out for her birthday. I'd like to try an independent local restaurant, with a good menu. Doesn't have to be fancy, but could be. Bonus points for a really cool/unique atmosphere. Thoughts?

Re: Cool Atmosphere, Good Menu
For obvious reasons, we haven't eaten out much, lately. That said, my list might seem fairly limited, but here are a few of our go-to restaurants for family celebrations:
MJ's on Main (Milford, laid back, decent food)
20 Brix (Milford, wine bar, good food/reasonably priced due to location)
Okay, the real reason we frequent the above restuarants has more to do with their relative proximity to Sugar Cupcakery, but they are still decent, locally owned restaurants.
Ferrari's Little Italy (Maderia, casual, family-style Italian)
Via Vite (downtown, modern Italian)
The Rookwood (Mt. Adams, casual, unique atmosphere)
This place was super cool, yummy food too!

Part of this list is stuff I've only heard about, but haven't had much of a chance to try lately.
La poste in clifton is delicious and fun. Reservations for this weekend might be hard.
Primavista has an awesome view.
The view in EWH has a nice view and really good food. It's owned by the same people that own Bella Luna, also a good option.
via vite and nicola's are owned by the same people and they are both very good.
Two places I have heard great things about and REALLY want to try, but haven't, are JR's table and Virgil's.

And now I really need a date night.
