when talking to my doctor this morning about a scheduled induction I asked her about stripping my membranes first and she said that's what happens when they give internal exams. I thought these were two different things. although at yesterdays appt when she gave me an internal , it hurt so bad i could barely breath through it, i swear it felt she was digging for gold or something, worst one i've had yet. so hopefully she ruptured something then. i was hoping she could rupture membranes and then that would help me go into labor in the next week instead of induction but apparently its the same thing as an internal exam which i thought was odd.
Re: stripping membrane question
I have "internals" every week since I was 37 weeks. All my OB does is stick her fingers way in there to check and see if i'm dilated. When she "sweeps the membranes" it's a totally different thing. She has not been able to do that because I haven't been dilated.
For me the internals don't hurt super bad just uncomfortable but the membranes sweep does (or so I've been told)
