Infertility

Update from my post yesterday (e2 levels)

Not good news. The nurse called and said that my e2 level is now 630 (day 7 of stims). That's low, right? She said that there are only 2-3 follies on the right measuring less than 10mm and 1 on the left. There is one follie on the right that is 24mm. Said that the dr doesn't want to give up yet and wants me to keep doing Follistim and Menopur and Ganirelix and come back in on Saturday for b/w and u/s, but that there is a chance that IVF will be canceled.

I'm devastated. I'm on the max dose of everything, I think. It feels so f-ing unfair.

I called back and left a message asking if we could convert to IUI and have me trigger tonight to catch the 24mm follie. Waiting to hear back.

Re: Update from my post yesterday (e2 levels)

  • Hi stranger :)

Sorry you are going through this.  But don't give up.  I was on stims for like 12 days and my levels were low too.  They scared me by telling me that they may cancel if my follies didn't grow more, etc.  But the IVF ended up happening, so hopefully you still have a chance.

    Are you going to RHS?

  • Hey there, Ellen. :)   Fancy seeing you here.

I'm going to Magee since it's easier for me since I work in Oakland. Thanks for telling me about your experience. I just hope they give me more time past Saturday.

When did you do your IVF? And I'm sorry to hear that you also are dealing with this.

  • I'm sorry. I was hoping you'd get better news today.

I know your RE doesn't do EP, but I think it, or another protocol, could help you. Stepping down your stims may keep your cohort together as well. You have follies, you just need to find the way to tease them out. I really think that you have options if this cycle doesn't work out for you. But I do hope that it does.

  • Oh - and does RHS have a minimum for mature eggs to go to retrieval? It's 5 for Magee.

  • I'm sorry you didn't get better news today.  I think converting to IUI sounds like a good idea (depending on your diagnosis, of course).

  • Thanks, ladies. Man, this is hard. Blah.

Faith - I have DOR, so IUI could work theoretically although we did 3 unsuccessful IUIs already. I did have a polyp removed last month, so that could increase the chances of it working, I guess.

I am not even sure if they have a minimum (they haven't ever mentioned it). The whole process has confused me - LOL.  I know when I first started meds, my estrogen levels were lower than they wanted.  Then the follies weren't growing as quickly as they'd hoped.  Then yesterday I went in for my first beta, and it was positive but on the low end, so they are concerned (I go back in tomorrow for 2nd beta).

My whole IVF process has just been a little delayed Big Smile  I am hoping that is the case with the positive beta (and that maybe the implantation was a little later).

  • Just spoke with the nurse. We're converting to IUI. The RE agrees that it's a good idea to take advantage of the 24mm egg now instead of risking a canceled IVF and no shot at an IUI if none of the smaller eggs mature. So, I'm triggering tonight at 9 PM and going in on Saturday at 9 AM. I feel a tiny bit better.

  • My levels were low. I started stims 2/24.

1st check 2/28, so (after 4 injections of 300 Bravelle)

    E2 66 LH 0.2

    3/3 (after 7 injections)

    E2 139  LH 0.3

    3/5 (after 9 injections)

    E2 472  LH 0.5 Follicles ranged 10-15

I did 2 more nights of stims, then Ovidrel.

I had my ER yesterday and they got 8 mature eggs and 7 fertilized.
