pubic bone tenderness?

So yesterday at my doctor appointment I noticed a little tenderness on my pubic bone when she was measuring my fundal height. I didn't think anything of it really. But the tenderness seems a little worse today. Anyone else experienced this kind of tenderness before?

Re: pubic bone tenderness?

  • Yes, I've been having that for weeks.  It's usually caused by relaxin loosening up your pubic joint.  Nothing to worry about, but certainly uncomfortable.

  • All the frackin' time - not just to touch, but walking is awful! Getting in the car, getting out of bed - super sensitive!
  • I've had it off and on for the last week, mostly getting up from the couch or bed, and then walking.  I was wondering if it was relaxin.  I'm going to mention at next week's OB appt.

  • Yes.  From my OB and my chiro it really is from the pelvic spreading.  I've actually had this problem since about week 18 and it hasn't gotten any better.  I do okay after I get up, but getting up can be a pain and running into anything (as I'm starting to be more prone to do it seems) can be crippling.

I have found that sometimes getting the lower back area massaged can help -- the area right along the back of the pelvic bones.  Also getting a baseball (or tennis ball) and either 1) having someone massage the glutes or 2) using gravity by laying on your side with the ball in the glutes and moving around a bit, really can help.  The second option sounds awkward, and it isn't something to do when company comes around, but it does help if there is no one else around to help.

Another thing that can kind of help is stretching the round ligaments that connect down there.  Basically take your hand along your hip bone and push in while pulling up.  Don't be scared to push in some because it will help stretch those muscles that attach at the pelvic bone.  Work your way from either the top of your hip to the bottom or vice versa, but stretch, hold a few seconds, move hands, etc.

  • I've had that a little the past couple days accompanied by menstrual like cramping and when I called my Dr's office, my Dr decided to have me come in for monitoring and a test she wants to do to make sure everything's ok. I go in today for the appt. I'm kinda nervous. Hoping I'm not dialated or anything yet. I'm only 30 weeks!

  • Yup, quite excruciating and not fun.

I had terrible pain with my first pregnancy where it hurt to walk, stand on one leg to get dressed, sleep at night, etc. I started going two times a week to my chiro and it helped a TON!!
