NBR - Early filers: receive your tax return yet?

I filed my taxes early (late January) and received notice that the IRS wouldn't start processing returns until February 14. I still haven't heard anything about my return, when usually it seems like a much faster process. Did anyone else file before February 14? Have you received your return yet?

  • Yes, we filed in January and they said we wouldn't receive our refund until the end of February (because of a particular type of deduction that we took). But the refund was in our account promptly at the end of February. Did you have direct deposit or are you having them mail you a cheque? If the latter, it can sometimes take quite a while to receive your refund.

  • DH and I filed separate this year (I go into repayment on student loans and income based plans consider both incomes if filed joint).  We filed the first week of Feb.  I got my refund last week, but his is still tied up with "processing delays."

  • We couldn't file until February 14, but we still got our Federal refund back today.

  • You mean a refund? Yes. A return is the paperwork you file. No snark intended, just wanted you to have the correct information.
  • We filed on Feb. 5 and our refund was deposited on Feb. 18.

Yep, I did mean refund. Grr, I wonder what the hold up is. We were supposed to receive ours via direct deposit...

  • Yep. Filed last week of January, and our return was direct deposited on February 11.

  • we filed early February and got our return within a week - direct deposit, though, instead of a mailed check. Maybe that could be the difference...? There's supposed to be a phone number or website or maybe both that you can check on your return. I'd look into it. That seems really delayed.

  • OP, did you do DirDep? We did, took about 8 days from the delayed filing date (like you, the Feb 14 date). Fed DirDep date = 2/25, state = 2/18. I think the "8 days" is the fed #...state seems to get deposited so much quicker.

Thanks for the tip! I found the website and will check it out.

  • We filed February 15th and got the state refund back the next week.  Still haven't gotten federal yet, but I checked the website and it supposed to be mailed March 11th.  You can check the status at www.irs.gov, then click on check on your refund (left hand side under online services). You need your social security number, filing status, and the exact dollar amount of your refund.  Hope that helps!

  • yes, filed feb 14, received feb 26

  • I just used the tool on the IRS website to track my refund, and it's scheduled to be deposited tomorrow, lol. Well I'm a day early in starting to panic, but at least now I have peace of mind! Thanks ladies!

  • I filed after February 14th I've already received our refund. You can go to IRS.gov (pretty sure) and it can tell you the status.

  • We filed on Feb 7th, but couldn't process until Feb 14th b/c we had the 1st home buyers credit and we sold at a loss so we didn't have to pay it back, I JUST got off the phone with the IRS and he is having to "send a referral" to get someone to manually finish our return and I have to wait another 30 days. Grrrr. We we're going to do the lowes tax credit thing and get my husband a free grill and now it will be over before we get our money, so no grill. :(

  • This seems weird to me that you haven't gotten your money yet. I filed my taxes on the 18th of February, and got them direct deposited on the 25th for my federal and then the 27th for state.
