Here goes to hoping I don't look like a total asshat...
Let me start with my DH and I are Catholic, and will raise Tino Catholic. We are not strict, nor do we attend mass every week. I do believe an upbringing around some belief is important, but definitely not necessary.
That being said. I do not now, nor do I ever think that religion should interfere with the health of your child. That child is not choosing to be said religion. That child did not choose to be brought into your beliefs. This is piggy-backing on the vax posts.
Where my issue comes in, and it's specifically with Jehova's witnesses is in regards to blood products. Where I work,(in a PICU) we see babies, children, and teens come in who have life threatening injuries, diseases, or surgeries. Blood products are in fact necessary to save their lives. And because of this religious belief, we can not give life saving products to these children without court orders. Do you have any idea how long emergent court orders take?
We have had kids die from, as far as I can see, negligence. Put your religion and yourself aside for ONE minute, and see that with a 'yes', you can save your child's life.
I am a fairly tolerant person. This is one area of my field that I have yet to tolerate, accept, or understand.
I don't think having a leash on a kid means you aren't keeping an eye on the kid or being a good parent. It just means that the 3 foot tall person who runs fast won't get away in the half second it takes for you to blink. I don't agree with using a leash as an excuse to ignore your child, but as a secondary precaution, I think it's fine.
Exactly. If you think your child is going to always be a perfectly behaved little boy/girl who will walk beside you holding your hand at all times because you're a good parent and discipline, you have another thing coming. I almost seen a child get hit by a car, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the parent not paying attention.
I havent had to use one yet, but I'm not opposed to doing so if need be in the future and don't judge others who do.
Here goes to hoping I don't look like a total asshat...

In fact, did you see my comment upthread (got buried)?
MJLab78:
I judge people who refuse to treat their child's illness because they want to "leave it in God's hands" and "pray".
Prayer
is great, God is great... but it's like praying to win the lottery but
not buying a ticket. IMO, God created the intelligence of those who
researched and developed the medications and procedures to treat x, y
and z. That is how your little one will get better, along with prayer if
you believe in that (I do).
And it sucks that the little one gets no say and may be in intense pain and suffering because of it.

Totally understand for both. My oldest nephew chronically referred to dinosaurs as "dineys," and the middle 2 refer to their blankets as "lovies." Drives.me.nuts.
I'd give you a thumbs-up if I didn't have Google Chrome!
I think it bothers me more than it should because I nannied for kids who are no 8 and 5 and their mom uses baby talk all.the.time. Another example: "Mommy's getting your chickies and orangies!" I felt so bad for the kids because I can only imagine them being teased in school. Their mom did that for everything...all nicknames, all the time.

"Is my baby sick?" Go to the fvcking doctor if you're concerned.
Well yeah and many people have already put a call into their pedi office, maybe they just want to see if anyone else has experience with what is going on with their LO.
Though I suppose it's all about the wording. Kinda like the "Am I Pregnant?" posts back on TTGP/1st Tri.
I totally don't have a problem with it if they've already called the pedi and are just looking for advice. It's more of the ones like "My child has a runny nose, a fever and is not acting himself. Should I call a doctor?" Yes, you should have called your doctor before you asked the bump about it.

I've been waiting for someone to say this. The board has been so nice and drama free lately. I kind of love it.
I think that those leash/backpack things for kids are ridiculous. (Check back with me in a year to make sure I still feel this way).
I have been flamed so many times for saying this. I still will never use one, and when someone says "oh you just wait a few years and you won't be saying this" I want to literally ask for their number and call them when my kids are 2 & 3 & 4 and tell them I still have not used a leash on my child. Because they are not animals.
I'm so late to the game but I feel the same about leashes as well as a few other parenting decisions. I'm still waiting for all the people (probably on 6-9 now) who said to just wait, they were going to come back and throw my "I'm going med-free" comments in my face, to come back. Oh wait, they can't because I did it.
Here goes to hoping I don't look like a total asshat...

I am ALL for making interweb friends. I met my husband on Halo2. I made good friends on that game. I hope to make some friends outa this group.
With that. I will NOT try overly hard (as A LOT of people on here do) to jump on bandwagons, kiss a$$, and generally suck at being an individual.
We all have an innate drive to be liked. Popular even. Not a one of you can deny it. But when I come on here and post? I post what's relevant to me, not necessarily what's going to get the regs in on my threads. My feelings do not get hurt when certain people do not respond.
It's like... a stupid bump popularity contest. And WTF do I care? Cuz I don't. And my UO is people who do care? Need to be more individual. :-p
I do have to say. I get all squishy when I get told ppl have bump crushes on me :-p makes me all warm and fuzzy

What always surprised me is the amount of people that seemed to think she was some sort of "God" for lack of a better word. And these people would post a thread pointing her to it so she could make some sort of comment like what she has to say really means anything?!

Yes. I hate that it gets like middle/high school on here sometimes. We're here to talk about our babies and sometimes some other discussions are brought up. TB gets way to clique-y for me sometimes.

BINI i kind of have a crush on your kid. And a little on you too, I guess, because I feel the exact same way. HA! Bandwagoning!
But for serious. The blatant ass kissing that used to go on sometimes made me throw up in my mouth a little. I was having to brush my teeth like 7 times a day from it all.

I honestly think people would suck up to her so that she wouldn't flame them. She is a real biitch and could say some pretty rotten things and I think that made people try to get on her good side.
"Seriously, mommy forum people are some crazy ass bitches." New Year New You
I think the leash debate is the same as all other baby paraphernalia debates (cd or sposie, bf vs ff, etc) - use one or don't; as long as other people are looking after their kids it's not your business how they do it.
I'm late to the game but completely agree with this. I have to admit that pre-baby I was a little judgy on certain things. In fact, I was very judgy. Now that I have my DS I've learned that people have to do what is best for them and their family. When I see other moms on TB judge over things like BFing it drives me batty (and I should add that I EBF). As long as baby is being given love, comfort, food and safety, there is no reason to worry about someone else's LO.

It is so different for me. I never really care what others think of me. I dont think that anyone really likes to get flamed but in the end who really cares?? I mean most of us are never going to meet each other. For me it is you either like me or you dont. I am not going to lose sleep over any of it. I am intitled to my opinion and I know that not everyone is going to agree with it and I am fine with it.

I completely agree with you. DH was raised in this cult of a religion (which he thankfully is no longer part of) and when we first got together I told him if something happened to him I would make the decision to do WHATEVER was necessary to save his life. He could divorce me, I didn't care because he would be alive. Thankfully the conversation never went past there because he agreed with me and didn't beleive the garbage his parent's taught him anyways.
What always surprised me is the amount of people that seemed to think she was some sort of "God" for lack of a better word. And these people would post a thread pointing her to it so she could make some sort of comment like what she has to say really means anything?!

I don't think this should turn into an LCB bash thread though. We can all agree that we are happier right now but us talking smack here is no better than what she did that everyone hated, you knowz?

I always liked she was ahead of me enough that she would move on to the next board shortly after I got to one so I didn't really have to deal with her. I never had a run in with her and even if I did I wouldn't care. I like drama on here for entertainment, sometimes, but to a point. She got out of hand 99% of the time.
Oh, and my UO: I think political correctness has gone way overboard nowadays. I understand there are certain things that are socially unacceptable but I swear it feels like you can't walk out your front door without someone getting offended. Whatever happened to plain old common sense?
That offends me, you know?
Completely agree! Everyone is too damn sensitive. Just a bunch of pvssies.

While I don't agree with what she said to LCB, I do miss wife1014. I hope she is doing okay.
I also appreciate how calm and fun this board has been in the last few days.
I completely agree! And the death threats? Come on people! Their country albums were way better than the recent album they put out too. : (
Wife was my bump partner in crime. I don't give a crap what she said, she is a good person.
I don't think this should turn into an LCB bash thread though. We can all agree that we are happier right now but us talking smack here is no better than what she did that everyone hated, you knowz?
I have always WANTED to get flamed by LCB... srsly. COME BACK!

no. it shouldn't. doesn't negate the fact that I want some of what she's got to dish. :-)

Right I think she is a great person and said something in the heat of anger. If you still are in touch with her, pass along good wishes?
I always liked she was ahead of me enough that she would move on to the next board shortly after I got to one so I didn't really have to deal with her. I never had a run in with her and even if I did I wouldn't care. I like drama on here for entertainment, sometimes, but to a point. She got out of hand 99% of the time.
Completely agree! Everyone is too damn sensitive. Just a bunch of pvssies.
