Stay at Home Moms

This is awful, but I HATE watching someone else's toddler right now.

I have been watching a coworkers 16-month-old since last Thursday.  Her normal babysitter is away and she is paying me instead.  We certainly need the money with my being home, so it's actually very helpful in that way.  I had done it once before and it was fine.  The little boy was very easy and didn't require too much.  However, he has now begun his "whiney phase", which has in turn caused my two to revert back to following me around and whining.  Also, I cannot leave the house b/c my car does not fit three carseats.  In addition, he got dropped off with severe diarrhea on Monday (mom warned me before she came - I said it was okay b/c I know how stressful it can be to be a working mom and have to call out all of the time).  So then I had a sick kid for the day and he still wasn't 100% yesterday.  It's still cold here, so without the sun, we're stuck inside.  I just want my normal days back and will probably hesitate to agree to do 7 days in a row ever again.

  • Hang in there, the week is almost over.

  • I agree!  I watch my cousin's 18 month old 2 days a week for 3 hours a pop. He's a super good kid and it's hardly anything and I still hate it most of the time.  PLUS they don't pay me.  The mom is in nursing school FT and the dad is unemployed most of the time (loser.  And he is my relation, not her).  The disruption is so hard.

  • I periodically watch BFF's DD when she has a childcare gap.  I love her and she is great, but I still would rather not.  I do it for BFF, but it is not my favorite thing.  My old car didn't fit 3 car seats either, so we had to walk everywhere and I had to carry DS.  I feel for you.
  • I feel you.  I watch a 19 month old a couple times a week and there are definitely times I would rather not. lol  So even though the extra money helps, when the mom cancels my days, I'm secretly relieved.

  • I am sorry. Sick kids are always harder. Also from your post I'm gathering that they grow out of the whiney phase? By a year and ten months? Oh I hope it's true!!

  • This is even more awful, but I have zero patience for other people's kids. I love my own a whole lot, but I'm just not a fan of most other kids. Embarrassed

I think you're a saint for helping your friends out plus dealing with 2 toddlers under the best of circumstances. It's even more difficult when the LO is sick, whiny, and you're stuck in the house all day with the 3 of them.

LOL!  I can't say it's truly over, but they were out of that 'follow mommy around and whine all the top' phase.  Now they seem to be following the lead of this other little one.  I just keep thinking "benefits will be paid w/o any issue this month" over and over again in my head and sometimes out loud.

This is me too and for the longest time I have felt so guilty about it!  It totally depends on the kid(s) too...I'll watch my niece (almost 3) and nephew (8 months and SO easy) without much issue.  Niece plays well with our kids and it's all good.  When my other nephews are here it's a tattling fest all.day.long (and my sister and BIL are aware of it, they are trying to remedy it).  One kid tattles, then the next one tattles, then my kids start and it just goes on until I want to plug my ears and say, "La la la I can't hear you!"

Yeah, I was actually going to add this part to my OP.  I don't love other peoples' kids all that much either.  When they are easy and blend, that's one thing, but toddlers tend not to be easy no matter how "easy" they are.
