I googled to see if there was a sleep regression at 8-9 months since my daughter has gone from sleeping 12 hours to sleeping like sh!t, and sure enough, there is. Anyone come out on the other side of this? I need hope that one day I will get more than 4 hours of sleep every night...please. Anyone?

Re: 8-9 month sleep regression?

  • DD went through a non-sleeping/waking very early phase around 8 months.  I think its because she figured out how to crawl and stand pretty much at the same time.  When ever she would wake at night she use to roll around find her blankie and go back to sleep, but then one night she realized its more fun to crawl around and stand up and bounce.  Of course after a few min. she wouls start crying and because I didnt want my oldest LO to wake ( they share a room ) I went in and got her.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel.  After about 3 weeks of this I had enough and let her fuss and cry (took a chance and older LO slept through it) and she did give up and lay back down and go back to sleep.  Now she is 9.5 months and she will wake, stand up, look around, lay back down and go back to sleep.  I also keep a few small soft toys in her crib that she can play with and that helps keep her busy and usually falls back asleep.  GL get some sleep soon!!!

  • Same here!! She used to sleep through, but now she's waking up 2-4 times a night! And I've tried everything from cluster feeding in the evenings to phantom feeds just before I go to bed... no change.  Apparently it could be separation anxiety.

  • Around 9 1/2 months she went back to sleeping through which she hadn't done since, oh, about 6 months? lol. 8-9 was definitely the worst, though. She had incredibly bad separation anxiety and not only would wake at night, but would not go back to sleep, it would take hours to get her down again. The suddenly she went down one night and didn't even wake to nurse. I'd say maybe 4 nights a week she sleeps through now and the other 3 she wakes for her midnight feeding, but it seems like it's getting phased out. And one waking I can totally deal with!

  • Unfortunately my DD slept poorly during months 8 & 9.  It's amazing, just as C turned 10 months, her sleep improved.  She now sleeps from 7:30-5:00ish, nurses a few min and back to bed until 7. She naps from 9:30-10 and 1:30-2:30ish.  We also did a combo of Ferber and Weisbluth in mid-February when I couldn't take it anymore. GL!
  • DD sleeps with us, but the past couple of nights she has been tossing and turning like no other. It has made for some pretty sleepless nights.
  • Thanks ladies. I hadn't realized separation anxiety could be playing a part in this too, and she needs to be attached to me all day long lately so we are definitely experiencing that. I guess we just have to wait it out. Thanks for your insight!
