C-section and running

Anyone try to get back to running and experience MAJOR pelvic pressure pain? I am 9 weeks PP, was an avid runner before and now with this pain I can hardly slowly jog a .25 mile at a time. Does it get better? It is like the pelvic pressure I had when I was carrying her, it sucks.

Re: C-section and running

  • No, my scar ached a little, but no pelvic pain. Maybe give the OB a call.

  • My son is 16 months and 2 days, but I had to have an emergency c-section. I started walking the day after my C-section because I was an avid runner as well and wanted to get back into shape ASAP. I never had intense pelvic pain, but I was sore the first few times I tried to run. I don't think I was able to get run in until about 4 months PP. I did keep trying, which I think pro-longed the recovery, my advice is to take it easy for a few more weeks...I know it is hard, I just craved the run more then anything! Now I have NO problems at all, hope all works out for you! I would however call the OB if you are having intense pelvic pain--it may be an indication something else is wrong.

    :]

  • It definitely would have been 3-1/2 to 4 months before I could run without discomfort after my c-section.  Jogging probably would've been more comfortable for me at that point.  Good luck to you!
  • I didn't have a c-section, but I had a very rough delivery pushing for 2 1/2 hours and I had pain and pressure when I ran for months!  Every time I asked my doctor she would just tell me she didn't know why... thanks!... eventually it went away, but it was definitely a painful process (literally) getting back into my work-out routine for a very long time...

Well I was luckey and got both, pushed for several hours and the c-section... : )

Thanks ladies I will try and be patient and get back to it when my body is ready. At least I will save money on race registrations for now!

  • I am just about 6 months post emergency c-section after pushing and then the doctor realized Ryan's u. cord was wrapped around him (ugh 3 times).  Needless to say I started the old couch to 5 k after 6 weeks post to ease back into running because of the surgery and infection I got 2 1/2 weeks after surgery.  I have always had sore hips since my first pregnancy 9 yrs ago.  I try to incorporate yoga and pilates 1 day a week each into my routine.  I'm back down into the 120's but I don't plan running more than a 10k because of the time involved and potential injuries with longer distance running.  I hope to find/make time for spinning again in the next month or so when school is out for my oldest.  Working full time and taking care of 2 kids w/ big age gaps is difficult finding workout time sometimes!

    Good Luck!

  • I think it may be too soon for you to run. Your body may just need extra healing or slower to heal. I had to have two C-sections, my last being 3 years ago and it still feels weird for me after a run or any pelvic exercises. It's not painful...it's just this weird pressure and can't get uncomfortable.
Why ask why, when you know you're going to get a smart-ass answer
