PSA:McCain/Palin and Abortion
I need to clarify because this is driving me freaking crazy.
McCain and Palin are both PERSONALLY Pro-Life. BUT when asked about the Abortion issue McCain has said time and time again it should be left up to the STATE government whether it is illegal or legal. He does not want it to be a Federal law.
It is not like the day he gets in he would be saying "that's it, no more abortions!" He doesn't even have that kind of power!! It would have to pass through Congress & the Supreme Court and it never will!
And as far as the "conditions" being put on who can have an Abortion, OBAMA said in the 3rd debate that he wanted to impose those. He brought up in the case of a "health issue" with the mother that it should be an option. He said he is PERSONALLY Pro-Life.
So please stop saying how McCain/Palin want take away your rights as a woman! TYVM

Yes, McCain used to be much more 'middle of the road' when it came to the abortion topic ... Palin, not so much.

You're wrong that something would have to pass through Congress AND the Supreme Court and that it never will. Whoever gets elected will probably get to appoint at least one and likely more Supreme Court justices, which could change the balance of the court even more. So it's not like whoever is president won't have any effect on the right to choose.
The reason he did that is because as you know regulations can be very loosely interpreted. McCain was trying to raise the concern of Who is going to say what qualifies as a health issue?? It was in response to Obama's comment about regulations.
Palin is anti-choice. Period. No exceptions.
If you want to debate please get your facts straight.
Can you please give me a more recent example?? This was 8 years ago when he was NOT running for president. Don't make me bring up what Obama was saying 8 years ago!!

That being said, I still think that this issue should NOT be involved when deciding who you are voting for. Who cares about Abortion when our economy has fallen apart, we have 2 wars that we are fighting and our health care system is crap???
There are so many other issues that should be the center of the election and not what someone's stance is on abortion.

According to this, he wants Roe v. Wade to be overturned, yes? Yes, to give the power back to the states. But what else does he say? "However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion." And he eventually concludes with "...build the consensus necessary to end abortion at the state level."
So, I'm pretty sure that "McCain/Palin want take away my rights as a woman."

It's ridiculous when we as women think it's fine to tell someone what to do with their own body. 'Conditions for Abortion' sounds like a sure fire way for women who need it to be denied.
Um, I think nearly everyone is PERSONALLY pro-life. I don't know of very many people who run around saying, "Man, abortions are really great. Let's increase the number of abortions, wouldn't that be swell?"
Saying the STATES should decide is the same thing as saying Roe v. Wade should be overturned. Then, some states make it illegal, making abortions accessible for those with the resources to travel to another state, and not accessible for those who do not have the resources. Which is the reason Roe v. Wade held legally to begin with.

What I wanted to post with it was that it's not out of the ballpark to wonder if he would try to repeal R v. W based on a history of statements like that.
according to McCain's website he is for overturning Roe v Wade. Obama is for protecting it.
?? In January of 2000, McCain WAS running for president. He was in the thick of the Republican primaries against Bush. He won the New Hampshire primary. I'm just saying.

I'm not for abortion. I just disagree that the government should have a say in what goes on in my uterus.This is where my concern lies with the whole debate.
I am certain I would be able to get an abortion if I made the choice to have one because of my health. But, since I've delivered a healthy baby and my health does not appear to be negatively impacted by my pregnancy or delivery, I wonder if I would have to "shop around" for a doctor who would write me a medical exception to an abortion ban.
Since that makes some grey area....
Women who have made the choice to have an abortion will ALWAYS find a way to have an abortion. They just might harm themselves or commit fraud in the process.
Rather than focusing on the issue of abortion, I wish we were focusing more on prevention of those unwanted pregnancies in the first place.
(Note: I do not know for sure whether I would terminate a pregnancy, ever. But I spent the entire first trimester of my first pregnancy asking an embryo not to kill me, and the third trimester trying to figure out how best to get us both through in good health. That was painful enough. An abortion ban would force me to jump through hoops to safeguard my health - and, therefore, the welfare of my family - in addition to the incredibly painful decision to terminate a pregnancy. Just making these exceptions does not solve any problems. It creates more grey area and more pain for those who you feel compassionate enough toward to grant them a say in whether to carry a baby to term.)
Sorry, this is probably entirely the wrong thread for this. I just got home and am catching up.
it just scares me to think how hard women fought to get roe v. wade passed in the first place and how many "back alley" abortions there were before it was legalized.
we have no idea how lucky we are that we HAVE the right to choose in the first place. ?it scares me that we as women have gotten so comfortable with that right - it seems that we could lose it just as easily as we got it. ?so even if it isn't a "major" issue right now, it should still be one you consider before you vote.
i'm just sayin'.?
