I recieved the injections on Monday. My RE said I was a low chance for etopic but could not rule it out 100%. My betas were crazy, not a viable pregnancy so they recommended MXT. I started to have very light spotting on Saturday, got the medication on Monday but the spotting seems to have stopped yesterday, Tuesday. When will I ever get a period or full on bleeding. The nurse at my RE's office said that I could have spotting but most likely would not have full bleeding until my beta gets to zero. My last number that I know of was 699. So who knows how long that might take. Just looking for what other people's experiences are? I am sorry that any of us have to be here.
I was also told that 15% of people have to repeat the injections.... Just my luck, I'll be one of them. I have repeat blood work on Friday and Monday...Then every Monday until zero.
Another question. Where you told to refrain from sex? And for how long? Thanks, ladies any info would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Methotrexate question
I had the injection on February 19. Here is my experience:
February 1- Spotting
February 2-5- Bleeding, mistaken for a period
February 6-10- Spotting
February 14- Spotting returned, and I started to suspect something.
February 16- +HPT
February 17- +Blood test= beta 1350
February 19- Beta 2300, U/S confirms ectopic, MTX injection
February 22- Spotting turned in to a light bleeding, that lasted through February 28. I have been spotting every day since then.
March 2- Beta 201! My doctor was shocked how quickly it went down. I go back again on March 16 for another.
My doctor told me it's normal to experience spotting/bleeding off and on as the shot works, and while your body still thinks it's pregnant. He also said it's normal not to have bleeding...every one is different. He told me, on average, for someone that had 1 successful MTX injection their levels wouldn't decrease to 0 for 4-8 weeks, and not to be worried if I don't get a period for a few weeks after that. He gave me a 10 week estimated time frame if my body cooperated with the single injection.
I actually just came here to ask about sex and saw this post. It's been a month since my husband and I have had sex because of all the bleeding. Yesterday my spotting was extremely light so I was hoping to strike while the iron's hot (ha, trying to be humorous in this situation). I am a bit embarrassed to call my OB office to specifically ask the nurse if I can have sex, haha. I was hoping someone here had an answer! If not, I can ask at my blood work appointment next week.
Best of luck to you, OP. I hope that the single injection works for you and your levels decrease quickly.
I had a partial molar pregnancy and had to have methotrexate injections.
My doc told me that I could not - under any circumstances - get pregnant for 3 months after getting the methotrexate shots. The metho takes 3 months to work itself out of your system completely (per the oncologists and nurses I dealt with) and that if you end up having a pregnancy to term, it has a high rate of causing birth defects.
DH and I just abstained during that time because we didn't want to take any chances even with using condoms. (I don't take BC because of severe migraines and the increased risk of stroke.)
I hope your levels drop quickly, though! My hCG level dropped naturally on its own and then stopped at 13, then went back up to 17. The doc though that 1 shot would take care of it, but for me, it ended up taking 7 methotrexate shots before I hit negative.
Good luck to you, darlin'!

You are SO right. i had an ectopic and had to have two mtx shots, bec the embryo kept growing. That was in November. 1 normal cycle later, i got pregnant , and had a missed miscarriage t 8 weeks. The fetus was not developing properly. And I am CONVINCED this was bec of the mtx shots, it was too early to conceive. My dr. said he didnt agree with me and that mtx is out of the system by then, but I have asked around on other forums, and it's been the same case for those women, miscarriages in the 1st trim for conceiving too soon after the mtx shot. good luck to you and my very best wishes.
