Feeling Movement

My OB, and further research, explained that I could possibly start feeling some "movement" around week 18.  Since this is my first, I am completely clueless about knowing what I'm looking for.  I've heard "fluttering" or "similar to gas."  Is this true?  How do you know it's movement?  I haven't felt anything yet and I have heard that it can happen anywhere between now and 21 weeks, so I may not feel anything for a little bit.   I've researched a ton, but was curious to get a real life perspective.

Re: Feeling Movement

  • With my first, I didn't feel movement until 22 weeks.

Movement feels like something is touching the inside of your abdomen with a feather, and sometimes it will feel like tiny jabs.

I'm glad you said that you didn't feel it until 22 weeks.  I won't let myself worry if I don't feel it soon. Smile

  • I haven't read this from other women on here, but when I feel movement it makes me kind of queasy. I can usually feel the baby rolling around more than kicks. It is definitely a feeling that I had never felt before from gas or muscle spasms so I knew it was the baby.

  • I've been feeling movement pretty consistently since 16.5 weeks. To me it feels nothing like what gas feels like...someone on another post used an analogy to popcorn popping, and that's kind of what it has been like for me - small and gentle jabs about 3-5 fingers below my belly button.

  • I've been feeling the baby for a couple of weeks. This is also my first so I was unsure in the beginning and didn't want to get too excited but it's unmistakeable now. I've felt pokes, jabs, kicks and then longer rolls or brushes. I don't think it feels remotely like anything I've experienced before.
  • I thought I felt something yesterday, but I'm not sure. I guess I'll have to wait and see if it happens again.

  • I like you and a first timer and really have been uncertain about the feeling I have been having.. however to me it feels like my cell phone vibrating in my ute... I felt something at 14 weeks and it drove me nuts... then nothing and now the last two days (im about 18w3d) I have felt it lower in my pelvis if its the LO its sitting down lower than I anticipated but its pretty consistant

  • Feeling baby is very similar to holding a goldfish in a bag...

Rolling or movement can be in random places....

Kicking or punching is in one defined area and usually doesn't move.

  • I sometimes feel a tickling sensation from the inside. I am still not sure if this is actually LO moving or something else.

  • The first few times I felt my little guy move it did feel like a gas bubble, but now that I know what it is, it's a very distinct feeling. I'm also now feeling when he kicks or punches really hard. In the last couple of days I've been able to see my belly bounce a little when he does it. :) Coolest feeling ever. I love that God gives us that little peace of mind. Since I can't see what's going on in there, as long as I feel him bouncing around I know things are okay. :)
