If you had a preemie for your first, what kind of prevention (if any) is your OB doing/or did for your second pregnancy. I gave birth to DD at 35 weeks and my OB mentioned when/if I get pregnant again I will have to have progesterone shots once a week starting at 19 weeks. Has anyone been told the same thing or had these shots?
Re: 2nd time Moms..
I had my preemie last so I can't speak from personal experience but 35 weeks doesn't seem too early or likely to cause great concern unless you already knew of possible issues with LO or you yourself had some health concerns??
Obviously, I am very new to this and maybe shouldn't be offering my 2 cents, but to me that just seems a bit excessive. Unless, as I said, there are known health risks for you or baby.
I'll be watching this thread as I am curious to see what others who are actually in that situation have to say.
We will discuss p17 shots after my 20 week appt. My OB really doesn't feel strongly about them for me right now b/c of my pPROM, and I'm really not at high risk for having a preemie this time. It was just one of those crazy fluke things that can happen to anyone and I have just as much chance carrying this baby full term as anyone else.
But he's going to measure my cervix at my 20 week appt and we'll go from there. I may just have extra monitoring and cervix checks.
My case was very different, I had a prefect pregnancy up until 1.5 weeks before I delivered. They did a protein test and checked my cervix (at just about 34 weeks) and I was completely closed and negative for the FFP (I think that's what it's called) so I had a 5% chance to go into labor (I was having a lot of BH and they told me I had an overactive Uterus or something but I would most likely goto term). So it was against all odds that I went into labor spontaneously at 35 weeks. DD was a healthy weight (almost 6 pounds) and the only thing wrong with her was her blood sugar was low and she had to have an IV. I really don't like the idea of these shots but I guess it might be worth it if I can bring a baby to full term this time.
DD stayed in the hospital for 10 days (which was complete BS...she could have come home with us) and I know that's a really short time compared to the other babies that are more premature but as you all know, not bringing a baby home with you from the hospital and watching every other mother be able to is torturous. That and the fact they don't tell you anything about when you can bring your baby home. I'd just love to have a "normal" stay the next time in the hospital.
