Have you started looking into this yet?
We just moved to the area so this is something I'm dreading. We got a list from my OB but still.....I wish there was a reliable online site with ratings for this sort of thing.
I plan to put it off for a few more weeks.....

Try just typing the name into google and sometime, not always, a site or a few will pop up that does have a rating system.....sometime even with patient comments.
Yeah, I just find it's so spotty......like 1 recommendation not a good picture one way or another. Ya know?! Oh well, thanks though!

We were VERY lucky! SIL interned at the pediatrician's office that her and MH went to when she was in high school (she wanted to be a DR but later changed her mind). Their pediatrician has since retired but there was a new pediatrician working in his office while she was interning. She liked him a lot and so all these years later when we needed a pediatrician (for DS) she recommended him as he had branched off and opened his own office. I couldnt say better things about him. He's young...actually had his DS (and first child) a few months after we had DS so when we go and see him he relates a lot of thing to his son and what works/doesnt work for them. It makes me feel really comfortable knowing that he's not just some guy telling us what to do, like certain vaccines...we are really against just giving DS everything available and he will be honest and tell us which ones he is or isnt giving to his son.
Anyways...you might want to ask around esp if you know someone in the medical field with or without children they might have recommendations. I would have been totally lost if it werent for SIL because I'm not from here so I don't know about any of the pedis and none of our friends have kids yet.

so we lucked out, DH and I just started seeing a new practice in August and they are double certified in Pedies and General Med. They are really awsome women so I am not even looking any further. however, i am looking for a new rhuematoligist and i found this web site that paitents can rate the drs. check out www.healthgrades.com
also my local bump board is kinda quiet but the nest board is busy, and most of the moms post on the nest...so check out your nest board as well.
GL!
Unfortunately, both boards are dead but thanks for link!

We went off of the list our OB gave us and then did it based on insurance. Once we narrowed it down we did a search based on schooling etc. I was thinking about interviewing, but I had no idea what to ask. When I called to make sure they were excepting new patients the receptionist said no one interviews ever and that I could tour if I want. I figure if we don't like they guy it isn't hard to switch.
Try checking the hospital website. Our Pediatrician is associated with the hospital we are giving birth at and on their website there was a bio, picture as well as reviews.
I read somewhere that you can ask if they have a separate "Sick" waiting room. Also, you may want to ask if you if they have kids of their own. If you plan on nursing you may want to ask if she breastfed or if his wife breastfed. Also, you may want to ask who will handle your calls in the event your child is sick on the weekends or in the evening after office hours; would the Dr. call you back, a Nurse Fractioned? How long does it take them to respond? Is it a practice where you will see more than one Dr? Just some thoughts.... I should take my own advice now and hop to it!
Good advice!

Ditto, thanks! PS - I figured you meant Nurse Practitioner!
I think word of mouth is the best way to pick, but I understand not knowing a lot of people with kids.
Honestly, you'll get a vibe from whomever you choose within the first month. And, if the one you chose sets off your momma radar, then you should change, asap.
With DS (nearly four years ago), I found our pediatrician based on word-of-mouth from a colleague. My only regret is that I didn't consider location as well. I delivered at a hospital that was close to the pediatrician's office, but did not live close to either (a 1 hour drive in traffic). MISTAKE! Those frequent baby visits during maternity leave sucked. Hopefully, you won't have such an issue.
Later, after asking friends/neighbors for references and Googling for pediatrician reviews, I found the pediatrician we have now for DS. His office is about 15 min. away from where we live. We plan to use him for DD too. The only downside is that he does not have visiting privileges at the hospital where we deliver but that's okay b/c we can just use the hospital's pediatrician while we are there anyway.
I feel the same way. My OB gave my a list of 4 docs and our landlord highly recommended her daughter's pediatrician. So far i've made consultation appointments with just a couple. I'm really just looking to get a sense of who/how they are..I guess a vibe basically lol. I have The Bump baby book and it lists recommended questions to ask a pediatrician, but I'm worried about feeling awkward reading from a list so i'll probably just limit it to what's important to me. As you can see..having the same issue ;-). Good luck and follow up on how you made out!
