Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How many naps is you 8 month old taking?

I am getting to put dd in daycare next month. She will be just turning 9 months old. One of the daycares that I am considering said children in her age group take one nap in the middle of the day. My daughter takes 2 and one nap just does not seem like enough. She is cranky cranky cranky after being awake for a couple hours. I can't imagine her going from 6:30ish-noon without a nap! How many naps are your lo of similar age taking?

  • On the weekends, she's at about 3 naps. During the week it's weird. She usually falls asleep to and from daycare for about 10 minutes. Then she'll sleep usually twice while there. I definitely don't think any kids under one are ready for only 1 nap a day.

  • 2 naps a day for 1-2 (sometimes 3) hours each. We have a part time nanny so she does not attend day care yet.

I agree! I also don't like the idea of a daycare provider telling me how many naps my child is allowed. At this stage it should be the other way around.
  • Usually it's 2-3 naps a day for about an hour or two.  Sometimes she'll skip her morning or late afternoon nap though - depends.  I just go by her cues - when she rubs her eyes, yawns and gets cranky, I know it's nap time. :)
  • DS takes 2 naps a day. He naps around 9 and around 1.

I have read that LOs don't usually transition to 1 nap until after their first birthday.

  • ditto on everyones comments.  Two naps a day. for anywhere 1-3 hours each.
  • at home, usually 2 2-3 hr naps.

during the week, at daycare, i'm lucky if she gets 2 30-minute naps in. :(

  • 2 naps here too.  I can't imagine Michael going with only 1 nap right now.
  • 3 naps. 2 longer ones and 1 catnap at the end of the day.

  • 2-3 naps a day, usually about 45 minutes to an hour (afternoon nap is usually longer). I was trying to keep him to one nap a day to get him to bed earlier, but no dice. I ended up with a cranky, whiny, and fussy baby by 4pm.

  • Expecting a baby to take one nap at that age is nuts. DD switched to one nap right at 12 months but most of my friends with kids her age switched to one around 15 months. My DS takes two naps. One at 9:30-10 and another at 1:30-2. Both naps are 1.5-2 hours long.

  • DD2 takes three naps a day.  A 30 minute nap around 9:00, a 90 minute nap around noon and another 30 minute nap around 3:30.

DD1 didn't transition to one nap a day until she was 15 months old.
