When do you find the time for exercise...

...and what kind of activities do you do? I'm having a hard time getting motivated and would really appreciate any tips you ladies could give me. My cousin and I will be attending a bootcamp twice a week starting next week but I feel there is more I could do. My parents are more than willing to watch DS while I workout but I feel guilty asking and would like to be able to do it without putting them out.

What works for you and what sort of things do you do?

  • I do a 25 minute Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD after DS goes to bed. He's in bed by 7:00 pm, so I work out right after. It makes for a busy evening because after I'm done working out I have to shower, pack lunches and the diaper bag for the next day, do dishes from dinner, homework for the classes I'm taking, etc.

    On the weekends I try to squeeze it in during his morning nap so I can shower and get ready for the day after I'm done.

    Honestly?  I don't.  I get up at 5:30, get ready for work, get DD ready for school, drop her off, commute an hour to work, work 8-9 hours, commute an hour back, pick DD up from after-school care, and if it's a quiet day we go home, make dinner, bathe, do homework, and maybe get an hour to relax before bed - if she stays up too late.  On a busy day I will have to take her to gymnastics or lead a Girl Scout troop meeting, or go to a PTO meeting somewhere in the dinner/bathe/homework/relax time.

     

  • I've also been trying to do DVDs after LO goes to bed. I have done the Jillian Michael's and they kick my booty. Also, your LO is adorable! What a cute shirt!

  • I'm fortunate that my work has a gym on-site, so I go to the gym right after work, run 4-5 miles on the treadmill and leave straight from the gym to pick DD up from daycare.  It's the only time I have.  I don't really have time to do it after DD goes to bed because I have so much to do to prepare for the next day and have to wake up by 5am every morning just to get out the door on time.  On the weekednds I just plop DD in the jogging stroller and go for a run or I go for a run with one of my friends while her husband watches their DS and my DD.  Finding the time is possible, you just need to make working out a priority.  Good luck!

  • Dont' feel guilty if your parents will watch DS while you workout.  It's essential time for YOU.

    I go to the gym several times/week and my mom watches DS.  She usually offers and I take her up on it.  I also jog with DS in the stroller and the dog (we're quite the sight I'm sure).  I jog with my girlfriends on Saturdays because we're training for a half marathon and I take DS in the stroller.  We take turns pushing him and the other person has the dog.  I'm sure we make a scene LOL.

    I also have a Jillian Michael's 30 DS DVD as well as a No More Trouble Zones DVD.  I do those sometimes in the morning before DS wakes up.  I have been slacking on doing this and opting to sleep instead, so then I have to workout at night.

  • Wow thanks for all the tips ladies. I know it can be done (especially when DS has 1-2 hour naps) I just wasn't sure what the best alternative was. I'm definitely going to look into some DVD's and take my parents up on their offer.

  • I had to join a gym.  I don't have the self discipline to do videos at home. At all.   

    I'm taking up running again.  Oh, how I missed it!  c25k will be my b!tch by May. :)

  • I do dance work out dvds while LO is playing. She usually comes over and "dances" with me depending on the music. I have salsa dances, party dances and belly dancing dvds. They are fun and keep me interested but I also have more traditional type work-out dvds for in the morning before LO gets up (I get up at 5 she gets up 6-630). I shoot for 5-6 work-outs a week but usually land around 3 per week right now.
