I would expect snack type foods and drinks like water and soda, juice boxes for the kids. I wold not do favors for adults.
Side note, 2:00 may be a tricky time since I know all our little friends nap during that time, it seems like it is right in the middle of nap time for people (at least when we've scheduled stuff with play groups and stuff)..

Ditto dbert on the timing unless of course you know that everyone can make it. I would suggest crackers/ cheese or maybe sandwich wraps halved. Chips, salsa, veggie/fruit tray stuff like that.
We're having a party up home at this time, and it's mostly family/adults - the only other child is my BFF's 7 month old. We did it at 2 last year and had chips & dip, crackers and cheese, a veggie tray with dip, a fruit tray, sandwiches cut up into bite sized portions, several drinks, cake, ice cream. MIL called the other night to see what we were having to eat because "everyone was starving last year". DH and I kind of felt like wtf? It's 2:00, you eat lunch and then you go to the party to have cake. So I don't know if I should have more to eat since I was planning on the same thing, or what.
I don't feel like spending a ton of money since we are doing a party down here this year, which we didn't last year (and yeah - 2:00 was my mom's idea and right at O's nap time so we are hoping to push his nap up from 1 to 12... we'll see how that goes. The party down here will be at 10 or 11 am since a ton of toddlers with set nap schedules will be there. We try not to mess with naps, lol) And the favors thing is my friend just had a first birthday party for her son and sent everyone home with favor bags. It was all adults and no kids other than O and maybe one other older child. I have favors for the kids at his birthday, but not up home for adults.

Ditto this, exactly!

I agree with everything you just posted, you know what you are doing, don't listen to your MIL!! I honestly don't think you need more food than what you listed OR favors for adults, I would not expect anything if I attended a party. The time thing makes sense now, ugg!

We did cocktail meatballs, mini pigs in a blanket, chips/dip, veggies, fruit, pickles. Then cake and ice cream. The mini pigs in a blanket were a HIT... I made about 60 and they were gone quick!!!
I agree with the others that what u listed is plenty of food in my opinion especially for a party at 2pm. I would assume people eat lunch before they come and shouldnt be expecting a full meat at 2pm! And yeah i wouldn't worry about favors for the adults!
She's nuts. You don't need any more food than that---it sounds perfect what you did last year and planned to do. It's 2:00, not AT lunch so people should eat before they come! Favors for adults? Seriously? That seems really odd! haha
Favors for adults at a child's birthday party is sort of odd and creepy to me. 2pm is a good time even though a lot of kids nap at that time because if you do it earlier it interferes with lunch or you have to serve everyone lunch and if you do it later it interferes with dinner. Its just one of those things that if people want to come they will.
Sounds like you have plenty of food, people should know to eat before hand.

Allie's party was this past weekend at 2.

We did not give favors to the adults.
