Hello! My name is Jennifer and I wanted to share my story and introduce myself. I had to wait a while to find out what month Dakota was going to be born before I could join a birth club and feel comfortable. Her due date was April 20, but she arrived on March 1 at 11:15 am.
The beginning of everything with Dakota started almost two years ago when I had a novasure ablation. I was told I would not be able to get pregnant again, so DH and myself sold all of our baby things and thought our five year old was the last. Come this past August, I found out I was pregnant, which was amazing after the procedure I had done. When I went to the first appointment the doctors found a cyst 11cm by 8 cm on my right ovary. They watched it until November when I was told it needed to come out within a week so that we would not lose our little girl. The day before Thanksgiving I was in for a day surgery.
After four weeks of recovery, I returned to work for 2 weeks, when my water broke on Jan 4th. I didn't know what it was since my water had never broken on its own before, plus, I was about 25 weeks along. Who expects that? So I spent the last 8.5 weeks on bed rest in the hospital with no water around my baby.
I was scheduled to have a c-section tomorrow (I have five other kids and never had to do that before), but Dakota made her own plans. I went into labor the morning of March 1 so we had an emergency c-section since she was breach. She weighed in at 5lbs 1oz and was 17 3/4 inches long! What a big girl for being born at 32 weeks and 6 days! She is still at the hospital, but I go to see her everyday. She only has one milestone left before she can come home, which is feeding. She will take about half of a bottle of breast milk, but then tires herself out, so feeding tube finishes it off. I did get her to latch on to me today for the first time for two minutes. The lactation specialist and myself were so happy we woke DH up from a nap in the NICU ![]()
This is my story about my greatest accomplishment, Dakota Kaitlyn. We almost lost her her in January, but she hung in there with me. She truly is a miracle and I would not give her up for anything in the world! It is amazing what things can happen when you keep your fingers crossed and do all that you can to protect your little one.
