*sigh of relief*

Don't have much time, but I wanted to let you all know I went in for an u/s today and baby is just fine - they didn't hear the h/b b/c it was too early. But baby was moving around, heart beating away, all is good!

I was also given some probiotics to take to prevent another pPROM - has anyone else heard this suggested?

  • Do they think that your water broke because of BV? It would make sense then to have you on probiotics to help prevent another vaginal infection that could get into the placenta and cause a rupture.

They don't know why. IIRC, I think I had a slight fever when I was admitted, but the placenta did not show signs of infection.

Probiotics will lower your chances of bacterial infections- including yeast infections- and they might be loading you up preemptively if they plan on putting you on antibiotics. I have been on antibiotics for UTIs with this pregnancy and they are keeping me on a daily low dose to prevent another recurrence so close to my EDD (which can cause a kidney infection and PTL) and fight off any other infections I may have, including BV. I was also told at my OB appointment to avoid sex before 36 weeks in the off chance that I might get an infection from it. An infection isn't necessarily why I went into PTL (still unexplained) but they think that it's one explanation of why I PROM'ed with no signs of anything being off.

  • Glad to hear the baby is doing well, and that you have gotten some relief with seeing everything going well on the u/s.  I haven't heard about the probiotics for the PPROM, but I say whatever people in the medical profession suggest you should take a look at it.  I would do anything to prevent another preterm birth if it sounded reasonable.  GL!
