Is DH stupid or is he trying to kill DS?

Case in point:

Someone bought Matt an Elmo balloon and DH put it in the nursery before we went to bed.  A balloon with a long ribbon.  His defense was that he put it in the far corner of the room away from the crib.

DH gave Matt a (new) sponge to play with in the tub. I walked in to find Matt chewing on a piece of said sponge. DH had no defense because he knew sponges are choking hazards he just didn't want to take it away from Matt.

WTF??? I have a hard enough time keeping Matt from inadvertently killing himself but I have to worry about DH helping him!

  • No, I just do not think he understands air currents or that his little baby boy now has teeth that can cut through sponges.

Perhaps he is trying to make Matt tough or give him good scars for when he is an adult because we all know "chicks dig scars."

In all seriousness, we are older parents and I have to catch myself when I think I had or I did x, y or z and survived and now there are prohibitions against it now because kids have been hurt or killed.  Your DH may be of that mindset and is not trying to kill or maim Matty deliberately.  He just survived balloons and sponges and may think that Matty will too.

This. I don't have this problem with my DH - who is a sprightly 36 - but I have to tell my dad almost daily about stuff that's dangerous or illegal that he just shrugs off. Like M wandering around Dad's kitchen and Dad saying, "he can't hurt anything," as M opens the cupboard with bleach and Fantastic.

Yeah, I could give a flying f!ck if he hurts something. It's HIM being hurt that worries me.

Oh definitely - my post was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek about DH's ineptitude.  There have just been a string of things DH has done that caused a palm to the forehead reaction the past few days.

  • My DH has made a complete 180 with the 4th LO.  For some reason, he is consitantly reminding me to not let T fall off the porch,  watch out she going to fall off the bed,  be careful she is going to fall, etc.  It is driving me nuts.  Like I let the older ones get hurt all the time.  The other morning I needed to get something while T was on the changing table so I put her back in the crib so I could run and get it.  He yelled upstairs at me to tell me not to leave her on the changing table.  Grrr. Like I would step away while she was on the table.

My older DDs love to tease him that he likes T the most.  They could have a point by the way he is always telling us to be careful.

It's like he had to turn 40 to realize LOs could get hurt.

  • Can't think of specific examples now but my H does stupid things with Jason from time to time, too (I don't trust him with Erin and don't leave him alone with her yet.) And yet, H is a doctor and saves people's lives all the time.
