Northern California Babies

West Sacramento or Rancho Cordova DayCare

Hey, NorCal moms! I am just starting the process of looking into childcare - we're due in August. We live in West Sacramento, but I work in Rancho Cordova and am open to childcare in either location. We are hoping for part-time care.

Does anyone here have a center or in-home care they recommend?

Thanks so much!

Re: West Sacramento or Rancho Cordova DayCare

  • I literally just (2 mins ago) passed this on to someone else, so I still have it copied to paste for you...I am also due in August, live in Sacramento, and posted a question about how to start looking for care a few weeks ago.  Here is the link...hope you'll find some good information there.  So far, in particular, I found childaction.org to be a really great suggestion.

Also, I recommend starting to call around, tour, and look asap.  We are touring our first choice center next week and they have "an extensive" (her words) waiting list.  I've heard a year waiting list is not abnormal in our area.  Good luck!

  • Thanks so much! I wish there was a search engine on each board, so we could browse topics and not repost. I called the place I imagined our baby going - but, they don't take part-time for infants. I was shocked, and this will certainly be harder than I first expected. Good luck to you, too!

  • Oh yeah, no worries reposting!  Like I said, I had the link still copied after searching google for it for a friend (using keywords I knew were in it, since I wrote it).  :)

I did hear that a lot of places will not take infants PT, only FT.  And from what I found, a lot of the centers that do offer PT reduce their cost for PT minimally (like only a 10% reduction in price for what?  A 30%+ reduction in time?  So you pay more/hour for less hours.  Crappy.).  I hope you find something that works out for you though!  That childaction site allows you to search for PT care specifically, so hopefully it'll be helpful.

  • Yeah, infants can't do PT at most places, mostly b/c of the licensing issues regarding the ratios of teachers to infants.

We are actually using a daycare center in West Sac, but it doesn't allow PT infants. I have no problem paying for the care and not using it everyday (I probably won't go to work on Fridays, for example). The center in West Sac was the only one we toured without a waiting list... the other centers were year+

Which center are you using? I was just looking into Portside Montessori (though, no PT). My husband would be home on Thursdays and Fridays, but maybe if we can only do full-time he'll appreciate dropping off the baby for a few hours here-and-there to do errands.

I also found some good looking options in Rancho through the search engines listed. I'm a teacher, yet moving schools next year, and I'm hoping that some of the teachers/families at the school will have some good ideas if I start asking now.

  • We had good luck finding our in home providers on Craigslist.  We did interview a lot of them, but we ultimitely found one that we really love and is affordable.
  • I don't know the details, but I know that there are some childcare centers here:

La Petite on Coloma Rd in Rancho.

There is a Kindercare off of Coloma Rd behind the KMart in Rancho.

I recently found that there is a Goddard School on Bear Hollow Dr in the Stone Creek development if that is closer to where you will be working in Rancho.

I would suggest that you find one that you can get to easily in Rancho and don't have to sit in traffic by Sunrise Blvd---something that you can get to from work and use the back streets to save some time.

    Good luck!

Thanks! Goddard is the one place I've already called. No part-time, but now I'm thinking I might not rule out places that only offer full-time...just not use them every day. Goddard shares a fence with the school where I work. :) I have heard rave reviews. I will be a bit farther next year, but only by a few miles.

  • Since you are currently working in the Stone Creek development and will be working near it next year, have you tried searching for in-home care in Stone Creek or even Anatolia?  We're in Anatolia and I recall a couple of in-home places in here, but unfortunately I can't remember the names.  Anatolia isn't too far from Stone Creek, especially once that new bridge/street is finished being built.

I just started looking. I found a couple out at Mather that looked good. I'm going to ask the school I'm moving to, since they know the families in the area. Thanks for the tip, I'll add Anatolia to my search! :)
