I posted a few different times about ECV vs Scheduled C/S and I really appreciate all the feedback I received.
This past Saturday night, I told DH I was thinking about calling L&D as I'd had some cramping, a lot of pressure and some spotting. Last Wednesday I had an ultrasound which confirmed Liam is still breech (we've known since our elective 3D at 28 weeks) and my doctor told me to think about whether I wanted to try the ECV or just book a C/S and let him know at today's appointment. Knowing I was breech was the reason I decided to call L&D (after talking to my doula, who agreed I should call just in case), I don't want to go into natural labour. We don't have any doctors in our hospital that are confident or qualified to deliver breech.
After spending 2.5 hours at the hospital, most of them hooked up to the machine monitoring baby's hb and my contractions, the OB on duty came in and looked at the readings (we're both looking really good) and then did another quick ultrasound. She told me that since baby is sunny-side up, there was virtually no chance of him being able to flip on his own, and in her honest opinion, the ECV wouldn't work either. She did encourage me to speak to my OB about it and get his professional opinion.
So I headed to my OB's office today, intending to still book the ECV if he thought we should, and also book a c/s in case it didn't work! I explained to him that I'd been at the L&D and what the OB there had said and he told me that she was "one of most experienced and senior OB's that our hospital has, and that she performs the most ECV's of all the OB's and if she wasn't recommending it, he'd go with her opinion." He then asked me if next Thursday would work ok for us!!!
Funny enough, I'd asked DH last night if St. Patty's day was an option, what he thought of it as a birthday? I am Irish (and a few other things!) and we're naming him Liam (also Irish) so it seemed fitting!! DH liked that idea a lot; so when the doctor asked "How about next Thursday?" I just started laughing!!!
Now I know I've had 9+ months to prepare for my little guy, and we are physically prepared - it just seems so surreal that I'll be a MOM next week!!! Kinda blows my
"no induction, natural birth" plan out of the water but at least I've had a few months to mentally prep myself that this was a very real possibility!
I guess I'll be spending the last week nesting (as that instinct clearly hasn't kicked in for me!) and trying to enjoy my last week with just DH and I!!! Thanks for reading my novel if you've got this far!!
Re: *Shocked* C/S booked!!! (LONG!!)
Well, sorry it didn't work out like you wanted but at least the end will be the same! That is pretty cool about it being St. Patty's day!
Anytime you are being induced it is such a surreal feeling. I was induced w/ DS but did not have to be there until 6:00 pm...that whole day I felt so odd knowing the next day, for sure, I was going to be a mom!
Congrats and good luck!
How exciting!!! I am secretly jealous of your St. Patty's Day baby!! DH and I have been saying all along how fun it would be to have a St. Patty's Day baby. We are both very Irish and are naming him Connor Patrick.
Good luck with everything and keep us posted!
TTC #1 Since July 2009 slightly low progesterone, endo, kinked right tube, Clomid, Lap and Hysteroscopy, and 13 months TTC = BFP! (7/23/10) Cautiously Expecting... 8/19/10 - it's TWINS!... 11/8/10 - Boy/Girl twins! Born 37w4d
At my 37 week appointment they scheduled a c-section for March 17th because baby was breech. But a week later, he has flipped on his own! My OB was surprised because he is BIG and she didn't think he would have enough room. They also didn't want to do an ECV because of his size. It could still happen, so don't give up just yet.
Good luck with whatever happens.
