peanut butter

I'm scared to let L try PB.  My mother had some allergies to tree nuts but not peanuts.  I don't have any such allergy but I have some other odd ball ones.

When did you try it? If you have a family history of nut allergies, how did you go about it? TIA

    DH is allergic to tree nuts. We waited until Alec was 3 to give him peanut butter and he did fine.  He's also had tree nuts and has been fine. I let Aerin try peanut butter at 20 months and we had no issues.

    My biggest thing is that I wanted them to be able to communicate (let me know if their throat started to feel funny) before I gave them PB.  DH's throat and tongue usually swell up first.

    Oh and keep in mind that until recently, CFA used peanut oil.  So my kids have been exposed to peanuts since 12 months.

    no allergies over here. DD has never had a problem with any foods, so I started giving her a smidge of PB just before her first birthday.

    I gave Max pb before he was one.  But- we have no food allergies on either side of the family.

    My pedi suggests waiting til after 2 if you have family hx of nut allergies.  I think it's probably as much for communication like maykat said as anything.
