This kid kills me sometimes....

I have been beating my BRAINS out for months trying to get this child to poop on the potty. I let it go for a while and didn't push it but, the past few weeks have been horrible to get him to go to sleep at bedtime. He holds the poop until nap or bedtime and then we go and change him etc...Not only is it gross now that he is so big but it's annoying and just a way for him to stall going to bed. SO, I tried stickers and M&Ms the kid could have cared less. I happened to be at TRU for a b-day gift so I looked at the transformers. He has been dying for 'bumble bee' so I got a cheap one. I stick it on the shelf in the bathroom where it can be seen but not reached. He takes one look at it. We tell him to poop on the potty and he can have it so what does he do in that moment? Rips his pants off, and goes. I MEAN SERIOUSLY?! We told him if he goes in his diaper we take bumble bee back. We have coaxed and pleaded and offered sickers and candy, done the flipping potty dance and this last ditch effort works in literally 30 seconds. I guess bribery is what does it for him.

  • Whatever works! Hopefully this is the start of it all!

  • That is genius that you'll take it away if he goes in his diaper!  My neighbors bribed their daughter to stop sucking her thumb and they had to keep upping the ante because she'd stop long enough to get the toy and then start again.

I need to start writing down all the tips and tricks I pick up on this board!

  • Sadly, bribery did not work at all for us.  But apparently, Gavin just needed to know that "everyone poops".  Not sure how his education has somehow glossed over this tidbit but now that he is aware, he's proud to proclaim it and will gladly poop in the potty.  As long as that book is in his hands.  I agree with the pp- whatever works.

  • He sounds like Ridge.

We had to go to TRU and pick out Super Heros ...like nice ones.  We did this for about three weeks until he got more "regular and in the hang of it" then narrowed his prize to something big after four days of staying "dry and clean" and would give stickers for the daily stuff.  The something big after a week and so on. It took about three months to totally trust him on everything.

Colton tells me when he pees and poops and runs to the potty and also points. Our Dr told us we could start potty training then.  No way.  I'm still recovering from Ridge.

  • Maybe I need to try this!  Caroline WILL NOT poop on the potty!  She waits (just like Colin) until I put a diaper on her for nap and bedtime and she will poop in the diaper.  She has done it in the potty 2 or 3 times and we went crazy, high fives, ice cream, whatever she wanted - but she still won't do it regularly.  I am willing to try ANYTHING at this point!

  • Alison- if you can find a hot button, push it. So far it's working we have had not dirty diapers in almost a full 24 hrs.
