Whoah! A great grandmother at 40? Seriously?!? And engaged at 8? What is wrong with these people?!
6/28/10: Lost our sweet baby Addyston at 18wk 1day to pPROM
7/24/11: Michael William born at 24wk 2d due to IC after an emergent cerclage at 18wks, 4wk home BR and 2 weeks hospital BR. Grow strong our little Miracle!
9/17/11: Michael joined his sister in heaven after 8 amazing weeks with us on earth. He fought a very hard fight but NEC was too much for him in the end.
Admittedly, I didn't read the article, but I can tell you that my great-grandma was a grandma at 29 and my grandma because a grandma at 34. That's how they rolled in Casey County, KY back in the day.
Maybe it's just me, but pregnant @ 15-16 seems like a WORLD away from being pregnant at 11. No?
Agreed! Although I would venture to say neither is desirable.
Even in cultures that marry and reproduce young I would feel less icky if 17 to 20 was the mother's age at first pregnancy. That still makes for grandparenthood in the 30's though. Wow.

I (thankfully) have not met an 11 year old pregnant girl, but some of the 15, 16, 17, even 18 year olds I come across . . .the thought of them being responsible for a child scares the shizz out of me.
That being said there's a few I come across in their 20's and 30's that seem ill-equipped. But that's a story for another day.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.
To be clear - I am, in no way, implying that older = better parent; however, I just can't imagine. 11 - physically, mentally, emotionally? No words.

Oh I know. And as I admitted, I just started chiming in without reading the article. I literally could not have gotten pregnant at 11--I didn't even start my period until I was 13. I cannot wrap my head around it.
I cant say much about it but I will say that at a previous job I had we had a case presentation of a client that had a parent who was a grandparent at age 23...
The client was 11, her mother had her at age 11 and she was pregnant and about to have a baby....talk about SHOCKING Especially considering at the time I was only 21 and had no children and the thought of children was overwhelming let alone the thought of being a GRAND parent...wowza! Very sad....
Re: 25 year old grandma
