Maddie did GREAT last week-not a single accident during the day or during naps. She did overfill a Pull-Up one night, so I put her back into diapers overnight, but other than that she has been in underwear all day. She's doing great, always tells me when she needs to go, holds it in the car, awesome.
BUT. For the last 3 days in a row she has pooped in her underwear. I am about to pull my hair out, b/c she pooped in the potty fine all last week. And she knows she isn't supposed to do it, and she is 100% with pee.
Any tips? I don't really know if I should give her a consequence for pooping in her underwear? She knows I'm not happy about it, but she's really kind of nonchalant, doesn't seem upset about it at all.
Please help, taking off poopy underwear and then cleaning up the mess is so gross.
Re: potty training set back
I hate to burst your PT bubble, but we had poop accidents for a long time after DS was completely pee trained. Weeks, months? I can't even remember, but it seemed like FOREVER. And there was no trick, he just eventually stopped doing it. We just kept reminding him over and over about how we poop on the potty, offered rewards for pooping in the potty, etc. No consequences though. We handled it just like the rest of PT. It was just alot more frustrating.
And I will warn you when she does stop having accidents to be very careful that she doesn't get constipated. My pedi said he sees it in more kids than not. They just don't want to sit down long enough to go. So just keep an eye on that, because DS got super backed up and it took awhile to get him regular again.
Thanks for your response Mikey. It has been a ROUGH few days around here with constant attitude/whining combined with lack of napping and waking up early. I think the poop thing is just the last thing that is about to send me over the edge!
I just wish I could get inside her little head and figure out why she stopped pooping on the potty! I definitely understand the occasional accident, but it's like she has just totally stopped trying to poop on the potty. She'll stop in the middle of anything- playing at the mall, watching her favorite show, etc, to pee. Sigh.
Oh well. Maybe I need to up the ante on the pooping on the potty prizes. I actually haven't given her any rewards for going on the potty for the last few days b/c she stopped asking and it didn't seem to make a difference.
And I will definitely keep an eye out for constipation- ever since she was an infant she gets constipated very easily, so I can see that happening.
I don't have any tips, but wanted to say ditto Mikey.
Lately A has been holding her poop until she's in her night time pull up. Very frustrating....
