If you make your own rice cereal

I made my own rice cereal from the recipe on wholesomebabyfood.com. I ground the rice into powder in the blender, then whisked for 10 mins in boiling water. I thought the rice was a nice texture. I gave it to DS and he gagged on it, so I pureed it and tried again. He still gagged, to the point where I had to pat his back to get it all up. I am wondering what I am doing wrong. He eats purees and oatmeal no problem. I only have this problem with the rice.

Any ideas? Maybe he just despises rice?

  • If he takes other purees and cereals without problem, I would guess he probably doesn't like it... We skipped cereal, but Ive heard oatmeal is tastier and has better nutritional value anyways.

We started with oatmeal, and he loves it! I decided to try to make my own rice cereal because I had some brown rice on hand and figured it might add some variety. I still feel like oatmeal is a "breakfast" food.

I ground up the rice again and pureed it after I cooked it to make it extra smooth, and he took it this time :)

  • We did rice for the first time a few days ago too (made my own out of brown rice the same way you did).  DD doesn't really like it either, but I wanted to introduce it so I could start mixing veggies and meat into it at some point.   But, she also hasn't been taking to solids all that great anyway.
