Success after IF

PCOS girls

Were any of you put on a PCOS friendly diet in addition to your Metformin?  How long did you/will you stay on it?

I've been on the no white carbs diet for awhile now, which I hate.  I made the mistake of asking my RE this morning how long I need to stay on it.  "At least until after the baby is born."  WHAT?!  I can't have a potato for 9 months???  (Why did I ask that question in front of DH, the Carb Nazi?)  She is ok with me going off Met after the first trimester but wants me to stay on the diet to help prevent GD (which I have no real risk factors for other than PCOS.)  Anyone else in the same boat?

(I don't even know if I do have PCOS.  I don't have cystic ovaries, I don't have IR, I'm not overweight, have excess hair growth, etc.  I've never been completely sure of the diagnosis, although since it's a contributing factor to early m/c (of which I've had many) I'm happy to treat it just in case.  But I want a damn potato.)

Re: PCOS girls

  • I haven't dieted or been put on met.  I what I want when I want and I have passed all my GD test. My problem with pcos is hairyness, and wght and cyst filled ovaries.

I dont think having a tater here and there will hurt either.  And its not the foods you eat that make you have gd.  https://www.babycenter.com/0_gestational-diabetes_2058.bc

Now go eat your tater with lots of butter!Big Smile

  • I was never put on metformin since I am not IR... curious as to why you're on it from what you say above?  I was never put on a diet either.  I do have cystic ovaries but am not overweight, excess hair etc.

  • When I was pg with DS I wasnt even on Met. And no one said anything to me about my diet. (And I ate carbs ALL the time, for a while they were the only thing I could eat). I was just fine. I failed the 1 hour glucose test, but passed the 3 hour and OB told me i didnt need to change me diet at all.
