Trouble TTC

Intro/Any high prolactin ladies?

Hey Ladies! This is my first post on this board I generally post on the nests TTC page( I notice some names from that board also!) but any ways for all of you who are unfirmiliar with me heres my intro :)I've been TTC for a little over a year now. . At my year point made appt with a new doctor, I was diagnoised with high prolactin level, days later after an MRI, the cause of the level was a small pituitary tumor.. Which genrally causes infertility and one not to ovulate. . I've been put on bromocriptine to lower my levels which 2 weeks after the medicine it decreased in large! My next blood test is this coming Monday to see where I'm sitting from their with any luck we should be able to start our TTC process agian. . I'm looking to see if anyone else has been diagnoised with high prolactin or a pituitary tumor?

  • Hi,

I had high prolactin levels, my MRI came back clear no tumour.  I am on Bromocriptine and my levels went from 40 to 4 in one month, I take 2.5 mgs twice a day.  And at my last set of b/w my levels were down to 1.  I hope your levels are down too!  How are you finding the Bromocriptine?

Thats great it went down so quickly! I started out at a 107 it went to a 20.2 in two weeks. I'll be going back Monday to see if they maybe went down any lower. I take 2.5 mg once a day. . The first week of Bromocriptine was a little rough with the nausea and the dizziness. .Luckly I work seasonal so I decided to take it in the mornings rather than in the evenings when I'm around DH, and generally around friends/family on the weekends. I'm now about 4 weeks in with it, as long as I eat something when I take it I generally have no major problems with it other an occasional slight  nausea. .  I was told that my level being high it will prevent ovulation, which explains now a little over a year of trying with no results. . Have you done any OPK tests or have you noticed ovulation returning per temping?

With the Bromocriptine & Clomid I was ovulating, this month is my first with just Bromorcriptine so hopefully I will.

  • I also have hyperprolactinemia and after switching meds and a roller coaster of a year my prolactin level is stable (last I had it checked).  With the bromocriptine and clomid my ovulation became more normal.  I am now moving onto injectables.

  • Hi there! I also had a prolactin secreting pituitary tumor. I say had because I had mine removed in 2006. I wasn't trying to get pregnant back then so I can't relate there. I didn't do any meds to help with the levels. I was just living with the tumor and then my surgeon advised it be removed so out it went. Have had several MRI's since and all clear. so, that is all clear now all I have to worry about is this darned endometriosis. oiy!
  • My Intro....I have a pituitary tumor as well!

I was diagnosed in 01/2010 and have been on Bromocriptine since then. When I was diagnosed, my prolactin level was at 88. I was just tested last week, and I went up a few points to 44 since my last check in 10/2010. So, my doctor has increased my dosage - .5 mg in the morning and 7.5 mg at night.

After reading how quickly some of you gal's levels dropped, I am a little nervous about mine!! :(  He said that if my levels don't continue to decrease, he will have to put me on the other medication....can't remember the name of it right now!

Question: Do any of you think that BC could be a factor?! Here is why I am leery...I met my FH in 04/2008 and went on BC...had never been on BC before that. We decided to go off BC in 10/2009 and when I didn't get AF and kept getting negative PT, I went to the doctor. I was then diagnosed in 01/2010. My levels had been dropping slowly, and we decided to go back on BC in 10/2010. Since 10/2010, my levels have slightly increased! I just find it slightly strange....

Medical journals say that BC does not cause the tumor, but who knows....

If anyone needs any support, let me know!!!

  • Found out yesterday my level is 627.5. I have an appointment with a dr. on Monday. Will see where we go from here.
  • Good luck with your appointment - please keep us all posted!

It feels a lot better to know that others are going thru the same things as you. If you need support, this is the place to be! :)
