Parenting after a Loss

So she really hates purees now.

And has been eating everything (for the most part) that we eat. Last night she had crockpot pork and saurkraut. LOVED it. For over a week now, if I offer any type of puree , she fusses and turns her head and screams, yells, swats at me. The only "puree" type foods she will eat willingly is applesauce and yobaby yogurt. She ate an entire banana this morning, from the peel. I held it of course, but she didnt want it cut up and rolled in cheerios like normal. It was actually faster to have her eat it like that since we were in a rush this morning. But I couldnt believe an entire banana was eaten by my little petite princess!

Anyone else's 9 month old showing no interest in purees?

  • DS will still eat purees but he loooves to eat regular table food. He had lasagna at daycare yesterday. NO clue how she fed that to him (or if he fed it to himself), but he loved it.

  • My DD is 11 months old and refusing purees but unfortunately not so willing to eat table food. I worry about her getting enough to eat. What do you offer your LO or has she always been a good eater?

It was gradual. Some things we started with :

cut up avacado (big fave here)

diced banana rolled in cheerio dust

    cubed tofu

diced and over steamed carrots, apples, broccoli, green beans, and even corn (corn makes for chunky poop! lol)

cut up soft mozzerella cheese (whole milk)

over cooked ditalini pasta ... then moved on to cut up whole wheat rotini. Started plain, then added 1/2 teaspoon of sauce on it.

at her 9 month, her pedi said no foods are off limits, just watch for choking hazards. also that she needed more meat and iron in her diet. He suggested lean lunch meats.

After that we tried cut up sliced ham, and cut up sliced turkey. Turkey is her fave of those.

Now we offer everything we have within reason. If i cooked with alot of salt one night, she doesnt get what we eat. I will give her a mix of her own dinners. She also LOVES gerber graduates raviolis. they are nasty, and we normally do organic foods, but this is a quick and easy dinner . Super soft for her to handle too.

  • Thank you so much for this list! You have no idea how much of a help it will be. LO has been on a food strike and only wants crackers and puffs so hopefully I can entice her to eat something more. Thanks again!
  • Mine has sort of always hated purees.

At first I thought it was weird.  Then, I realized it was a good thing.  So much easier to just feed him whatever!  Ditto, he still likes yogurt and applesauce - but everything else he'll spit.  Like Thpppppppppp spit.
