Introduction & 3 month growth spurt question

Hello everyone,

I normally lurk on this board because you are such great resources for information, but I wanted to finally introduce myself.  My name is Stacey and DH and I live in West Chester.  I am 29 and in my last semester of law school and hoping to practice in the tax law area.  DH is a counselor and coaches high school girls.  We welcomed our first baby, Madeleine, on December 6.  We are both from this area and the vast majority of our family is here as well.  I hope to get to know you all better and be able to participate in the get together's and playdates!

Now my question...Maddie started eating every 1.5 hours yesterday and woke up twice last night to eat (I am extremely lucky and she started sleeping 7-9 hours at night at 7 weeks).  I know this is the beginning of the 3 month spurt, but my question is how does it last?  Dr. Google has told me anywhere from 2-7 days, but that seems like a pretty big timeframe....I don't know though, this is my first time!

Thanks!

Re: Introduction & 3 month growth spurt question

  • Welcome!

All of DD's growth spurts lasted from 5-7 days and she is also a very good sleeper.  Of course, all babies are different so I don't know if I'm very helpful or not!

  • Hi and welcome! Looks like our LO's are the same age. Mine is going through a growth spurt at the moment and it's been tough on me, very little sleep! The past three nights, he wakes up every 1.5-2 hours and nurses for much longer than usual. If I try to stop him, he gets really upset and wants to continue to nurse. Usually he'll sleep from 7pm-11pm, and last night between that time I fed him 4 times! Not sure how long this will last, but hopefully not much longer!

  • Welcome to the board! What sport does your DH coach? This is the first year (in over 10) that mine isn't coaching, and I think it's harder on him than he imagined it would be. Anywho...

I agree with PP - every child is so different, it is hard to say exactly how long growth spurts will last. Are you BF'ing or FF'ing? IMO, the overnight sleep of FF babies seem to disrupted less dramatically than BF babies during growth spurts. Hang in there!

  • He coaches rowing.  What sport did yours coach?  It takes a lot of his time, but he loves it and it's fun to watch!

Maddie is BF.  Her other spurts lasted about 3 days, I just wasn't sure if the 3 month one lasted longer because the next one isn't until about 6 months.  I guess all I can do is hang in there and know that it will end!

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Oh how fun! Did he row in college?

Mine coached varsity baseball. The last two years were tough (but doable); however, we decided that it would be too much to juggle with two LO's at home. Plus, he's looking for administrative opportunities in the area, so that would take him out of the "game," anyway.

  • He only rowed his first semester (he went to Boston College) but had to stop because it was too much of a time commitment.  But he rowed here in high school. I would LOVE if he was a baseball coach - it's my favorite sport :)

Your boys are adorable BTW :)

  • Maddie is doing the same thing!  She is nursing like she has never eaten before and when I try to stop her (when I think she is just pacifying herself) she gets extremely upset.  I'm sorry you are going through the same thing I am, but I'm glad I'm not alone!  Thanks for commiserating :)

Hope it gets better for you soon!

Yes, except that he doesn't know how to do anything at 85%, so he coached like his career [college] coaches did. Practice/game schedule 6 days/week, from March - May. He still assists, as a pitching coach, at a few area skills camps; but that's all we can swing, for now. Before we realize it, he'll be coaching our boys.
