Shoe sizes- help, I'm so confused

The whole system of children's shoe sizes seriously confuses the heck out of me.  So, DS who is 3 1/2 wears a size 6-7.... I am assuming this is "toddler sizes".

DD wears a size 4, which I'm assuming is "infant sizes"?

Or are toddler and infant the same thing?

There is also "kids sizes"..... at which point do they switch to kids sizes?

Do toddler sizes and kids sizes overlap at all?

Sorry for all the question, but I was looking online to buy new shoes and I got so confused.  I don't want to buy shoes that aren't big enough and have the hassle of trying to return them!

Re: Shoe sizes- help, I'm so confused

  • I think toddler and infant sizes are consecutive.  Little kid shoes go up to size 13 and then start over at size 1 for big kids through adult sizes.

  • I don't think there a different numbering system between infants and toddlers. Sizing goes in order up to size 13 and then starts over in size 1 for kids.

  • Infant - 0-5

    Toddler - 5 (overlaps) -12.5/13

Youth -13, then 1 and up.

Usually you can find size 5 in both infant/toddler, then 13 in both toddler/youth.

it's all consecutive, though, until 13, then it starts over at 1.
