Where to stay in Gatlinburg w/ a LO?

DH & I are planning a weekend away in May. It will be our first "vacation" since our honeymoon in 2008. We were originally thinking of staying in a chalet, but now are thinking a hotel on the strip might be a better option.

Any recommendations on where to stay with a LO who will be 16 months at the time.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

  • I have stayed in a hotel and also done the cabin a few times and I will never again go to Gatlinburg and stay in a hotel. I think with a LO it would make even more sense to get your own cabin to have room to run and play. We were there last year for a friend's wedding and had a huge cabin with almost 30 people and about 10 kids and the kids had a blast. They were all ages, from 1-15. Plus, the cabin is more enjoyable for you 2 with a hot tub, pool table etc for after LO goes to sleep. I also like the fact that it's NOT on the strip. It's remote and you can just relax but it's a short drive down to the strip for the day to get out and explore or to go up in the mountains for a walk/hike.

  • We took DD to Gatlinburg at about 19 months and stayed in a cabin.

We've stayed in a cabin our last three trips down there (one w/ DD, two before DD) and probably won't due a hotel again unless we get an awesome deal.

IMO, the cabins are just so much nicer and you can usually catch a good deal, making their cost comparable to a hotel room.
  • We have gone to Gatlinburg the last three years for New Years and we will never stay in a hotel.  We always go with my parents and have stayed in cabins somewhere not too far from the strip in both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.  One cabin rental place we used was Heartland Rentals.  Two cabins we used through them were great, one was horrible.  So if you end up using them I can tell you which cabin I would recommend and which one I would stay away from.  This past year when we were down there we checked into two condo places just off the strip in Pigeon Forge and they were awesome!!!  We think we are going to stay in one of those next year.  I cant remember the names right now, but if you are interested in the ones we looked at I can probably find them for you.
