I mean I assume none of us expected to have a preemie when we started but I was wondering if anyone on here just went into labor early with no real health issues, pregnancy related or not, or previous expectations of doing so? Not to say it is any easier if you know ahead of time, just kind of wondering about experiences.
My water basically broke or had a slow leak at 33.1 weeks. I went in the next morning to determine if I was in fact leaking fluid. Once they found out, I was admitted and going to be on best rest until 34 weeks when they would induce me. Full blown labor started the next morning at 2am and LO was here by 5pm at 33.3 weeks.
They say they will never be able to determine what caused the break. My other 2 went full term. I didn't have any pregnancy related concerns and had been healthy leading up to and through out each pregnancy. Pilar, our preemie, was very strong and needed little intervention when she arrived. In the end, we discovered there was a knot in her cord and that maybe she just knew it would be safer to come out. Smart girl! ![]()
Anyone else have a similar situation?

Re: Totally unexpected preemie?
OP, our stories could be interchanged word for word, except I didn't go into labour on my own and was induced at 34 weeks, and no knot in his cord.
I started bleeding at 32w. I called the OB, who had me go to the ER. (The week before I was at the doctor who told me I was "perfect" and there was "no reason" I should worry about early labor!)
They hooked me up to monitors and discovered I was in mild labor. I was given meds to stop contractions and checked in over-night to monitor my progress. At 2 a.m. I used the restroom & told the nurse I'm still bleeding & in labor and she denied it. I forced her to feel my belly with her hands and she literally ran out of the room. She came back within minutes to tell me the doctor told her to prep me for a c-section - the monitors were not on me correctly and they were not picking up the labor nor the fact that her heart rate was dropping.
DH had gone home to let dogs out & rest. By the time he got back, I was on the table and LO was pulled out literally 30 seconds after he got there. We have no pictures!
The determined I had placental abruption and a giant clot had formed between the uterus& placenta. Its probably due to my RA and I've been told I need to see a specialist before TTC again.

my lo was born via c section at 30 weeks 1 day. uneventful pregnancy until may 31 2010. Sever pain sent me to the ER. after being transfered to another hospital (they thought gallbladder, and didn't feel comfortable removing it while i was pregnant in case baby needed help). At other hospital found out i had severe HELLP, and was told the baby had to come out.
9 months later... you'd never know he was early.
DS was born at 34 weeks. Delivered DS at 9pm. Less than 12 hours after my perfect no problems 34 week appt.
Totally normal pg, every check up fine and routine. MS and swelling but nothing out of the ordinary. I was in the docs office the morning I delivered for a routine check up - everything normal scheduled my 36 week visited. Did some shopping and got lunch. Went back to work, water broke at 3:30pm (I was in denile). Called my husband it was his birthday - he was having cake at his office, I said no problem call me back when you get a chance. Called ob - said " I thought by water broke" said I could come in if a want, they had a 4:30appt. Did not pack a bag told DH who called me back he could come if he wanted we could go out to dinner for his bday by the docs office. Got check and ultrasounded and then sent to hospital (same complex as doc office). Check into the hospital at 6:30pm ob met me there and checked me I was 8cm. Until that pointed I wasn't convinced I was having a baby. Ob's kept saying that we would discuss options but I think I was going faster and was more calm then they expected.
A pg friend ask me and my bff when our sons were about a year how we knew it was contractions. Bff said she went to the hospital 4x each time swearing this was it - she ended up witha scheduled c-section at 41 wks. I said I went once swearing the whole way I was not having a baby and had a baby with in 6 hours.
