Just wondering your thoughts. Henry has gone to bed well the last few weeks (most nights) but gets up a lot in the night to nurse. Naps are HORRIBLE. Our pedi said work on nighttime stuff, then naps. But I am home all day and would like to have naptime free to get stuff done. Usually Henry will only nap on me.... like today. I have tired for the last 1/2 an hour to get him to nap in his crib (wont anywhere else anymore). He nurses, falls asleep, I put him in the crib and he screams. I picked him up, cuddled him, (5 times), fell asleep, back down, crying. I let him cry 3-4 minutes. Now it's quiet... did it work? I think that he is up, just quiet.
anyway.... your thoughts on which to start with? Which is easier?
Re: sleep training easier for bedtime or naptime?
We're starting with naps. I'm much more alert in the middle of the day and at night, I often cave bacause I'm so exhausted.
Have you read "No Cry Sleep Solution"? We've tried one method in it that's worked really well- DS could nurse all night long too. I pull away and put my finger under his chin. It didn't work right away, but he's stopped waking every 1/2 hour to nurse- so well worth it to me... It's a work in progress.....
The book I read said to start with nightime since that is easier. We decided to start on a Friday night, and then to continue into naps starting Saturday. Nights have been much easier for us. He only cries for 1-2 mins for naps, but he wakes up much earlier than he is ready. We either have to let him cry and try to get back to sleep, or get him up and have a very crabby baby.
Brady has also started to just hang out for a while in his crib awake before he falls asleep. Here is to hoping sleeping is getting better for you!
The sleep training method I am using is a four step process. The last step is naps, which does not happen until they have been sleeping through the night (12 hours no feedings) at least 2 weeks. It really does suck when they don't nap for you during the day, you get nothing done, I know. I hope things get better for you soon, but I don't have any solution. My girls are nap good somedays and somedays not, usually I have one that naps good and the other doesn't so, I usually have to entertain at least one baby all day long, because they hardly ever nap at the same time anymore.
My DS does good in his crib at night, just not for naps during the day. Although my SIL can get him to sleep in the bassinet at her house on the days she watches DS. Not sure what I'm doing different. She said she swaddles DS really tight and gives him his paci. Anyway, at my house he naps in his swing and that's the only place. Sometimes I have to take DS on a long walk to get him to fall asleep. Have you tried the swing?
