Massage to start labor

So I have been getting weekly massages to deal with the aches and pains that come with pregnancy

And thankfully my Dr prescribed, and my Step-mom is a registered massge person and has been doing the massages.

She mentioned a couple of weeks ago that there are spots are on your ankles and on your hands that she can work on and massage that can help induce labor.

I would love to do that she claims that if it works it would possiably get my labor started after about 12-24 hours from when I get the massage.

My due date has moved from March 12 to March 19 to March 19 and I am ready to have this little guy,

I was thinking of having her do this at my appt on Thursday March 11.

As anybody tried this and has it worked for you ?

Re: Massage to start labor

  • I didn't try it, but I just wanted to send some labor dust your way!

  • The woman I saw during my pregnancy talked to me about that too. I didn't do it but did look up the pressure points and had my H do them. It didn't work.

  • My masseuse did them starting at 38 weeks.  DD was born at 41 weeks 5 days.  Acupuncture finally did the trick.
  • I had a massage therapist, myself, and my H push on them a lot and it didn't work.  I think I started with the pressure points about 2 weeks before I was due since I was already 5 cm dilated...E was born 8 days late.  Still, I've heard lots of people say it worked for them!

  • I think accupressure and accupuncture can work if you're body is ready to start labor anyway. If you're not ready, it won't work. I am sending you tons of labor dust- I know how it feels to be so ready! We did things that I think really helped. Walking- she was really low for a long time! This was a huge help. Sex! I was 4cm at my 38.4week appt. I had my membranes stripped at this appt- while I contracted all day- I didn't go into labor (that was a Monday, baby born on Friday). I also drank lots of Red Raspberry leaf tea the last few weeks. When my water broke, I was 6cm and hadn't had any contractions. I think my long walk the day before really helped. It doesn't hurt to try a whole bunch of different things! good luck!!!

  • As a massage person...... Haha I think you will truly have the baby when your body and baby is ready. There are pressure points that Can be pushed on and accupuncture points that can be worked on. I have worked on about 200 pregnant women and always work those points if the client is 38 weeks plus. Only one person has gone into labor with in 24 hours. Nut they were a week overdue. I am sure it was due to her body and baby being ready.
  • Thanks ladies,

I have been doing the walking thing although today it is snowing in Moses Lake, and doing the sex thing (my DH jokes that he is just a machine for me)

I will try the tea thing and see if we can get this guy out.

thanks for the labor dust ladies

  • It worked for me!  I had just stood up from getting a pedicure and was putting on my shoes, when "pop", there my water broke.  I agree though, it won't work unless your body is ready.

  • I tried it...twice professionally, and I asked my hubby to do it a bunch of times! Didn't work for me and I had to be induced anyway. I say go for it. It certainly can't hurt, and if it helps, then that's awesome. Not to mention, it feels pretty good.  Big Smile

Hope your little guy shows up soon!
